The SKF 22216 EK spherical roller bearing, with an 80 mm tapered bore and an integrated lubrication groove, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding industrial applications.
The 22216 EK self-aligning roller bearing is an open rolling bearing in the SKF Explorer performance class. It primarily withstands heavy radial loads whilst also accommodating axial loads in both directions. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, it has a permissible temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
Users primarily employ the bearing in industrial applications where high loads are accompanied by misalignment or shaft deflection. The sheet steel cage guides the rollers even under demanding operating conditions. As this is an open design without seals, the bearing can be incorporated into grease- or oil-lubricated housing systems.
The suffix ‘EK’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 and an optimised internal design. Installation is carried out either directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a suitable clamping or withdrawal sleeve, onto cylindrical shafts. The remaining radial bearing clearance can be adjusted by axial displacement on the tapered seat. A lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring ensures targeted delivery of the lubricant.
With an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a width of 33 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. The inner bore is of a tapered design with a taper ratio of 1:12, meaning that the inner diameter tapers across the width of the bearing.
At SKF, this designation denotes a combination of optimised internal geometry (E) and a tapered bore (K) with a taper ratio of 1:12. The bearing features lubrication holes with a circumferential groove on the outer ring, as well as a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage to guide the roller sets.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. In terms of manufacturing tolerances, dimensional accuracy is to PN class and running accuracy is to P5 tolerance class, which ensures smooth concentricity.
Lubricant is fed directly into the interior of the bearing, between the rollers, via a circumferential groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. As there are no integrated seals, the surrounding housing seals off the lubrication area to prevent leakage and the ingress of foreign particles.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage ensure temperature stability across this range; however, the lubricant used must be approved for the respective operating temperature.
