The SKF 23244 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing (220x400x144 mm) can accommodate high radial loads and compensates for shaft misalignment.
The 23244 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is designed for heavy-duty industrial applications involving combined loads. SKF manufactures this design from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) with two rows of barrel-shaped rollers on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway. Thanks to this design, the bearing compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing. As an open bearing, it can be integrated into existing lubrication systems and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
The self-aligning roller bearing is designed for high radial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding axial loads. It is used in heavy-duty bearing applications where elastic shaft deflection may occur. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the set of rollers adjusts its angular position without generating impermissible edge stresses. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements under varying operating conditions. A seal on the housing side must be provided for use in damp or dusty environments.
The suffix W33 refers to an integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This facilitates the even supply of lubricant directly into the housing. The designation CC stands for the internal design featuring window-type sheet steel cages and an inner ring without a guide ring. Furthermore, this component offers increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5 whilst maintaining standard dimensional accuracy PN. The main dimensions for installation are a bore of 220 mm, an outer diameter of 400 mm and a width of 144 mm.
With a bore of 220 mm, an external diameter of 400 mm and a width of 144 mm, this bearing is suitable for heavy-duty shaft support applications. Before installation, it is advisable to check the available installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore to ensure a precise fit.
W33 features a ring-shaped lubrication groove and lubrication holes on the outer ring. This design allows grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly from the outside between the two rows of rollers. This allows the lubricant to be distributed throughout the rolling element chamber, which reduces wear during operation and simplifies the relubrication process.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. This clearance is suitable for normal operating temperatures and typical fit conditions, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. During assembly, the radial clearance is reduced due to the tight fit on the shaft, which should be taken into account during design.
P5 denotes a tighter tolerance for the bearing’s concentricity. Whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the PN design, the component operates with reduced radial and axial deviation. This promotes smooth running in demanding drive systems and helps to reduce system vibrations.
This bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, is specified for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. As this is an open design without elastomeric seals, the thermal operating limits are determined primarily by the lubricant selected. The grease or oil should therefore be selected to suit the operating temperature.
With no integrated seals, the open design allows for direct supply via central lubrication circuits or oil-bath lubrication. It also permits operation across the full temperature range up to +200 degrees without any thermal restrictions caused by sealing lips. Protection against contamination is provided by external housing seals.
