SKF double-row self-aligning ball bearing 1211 EKTN9 with a 55 mm tapered bore (1:12) and a polyamide cage, for operating temperatures from -30 to +120 degrees.
The SKF 1211 EKTN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing with a 55 mm bore, 100 mm outer diameter and 21 mm width. Thanks to the spherical raceway in the outer ring, the design compensates for shaft misalignment. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the open bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. In rotating applications, the integrated polyamide cage guides the two rows of balls with low friction.
This design proves its worth in bearing locations where shaft deflection occurs or misalignment between the housing and the shaft arises. Thanks to its angle-adjustable design, the load-carrying capacity is maintained even when the bearing is at an angle. As an open bearing, this design can be specifically lubricated with application-specific grease or lubricating oil. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering on through-shafts that require angular adjustment.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes the tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. This design allows for mounting on tapered shaft seats or, with the aid of suitable clamping and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. Fitters adjust the standard radial bearing clearance via the axial displacement. The abbreviation TN9 stands for the dimensionally stable polyamide cage, which reduces the bearing weight. Before installation, the specified fastening method must be verified.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 21 mm. The inner bore has a taper ratio of 1:12, whilst the outer ring is cylindrical. These dimensions comply with the standard specifications for double-row self-aligning ball bearings of this size.
A tapered bore tapers at a ratio of 1:12 across the bearing width. This design allows for mounting on tapered shaft journals or, using an adapter sleeve such as a clamping sleeve, on smooth shafts. This enables the tight fit on the shaft to be precisely adjusted.
The polyamide cage separates the rolling elements of the two rows of balls and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. Compared with metal cages, polyamide offers the advantages of lower component weight, vibration damping and smooth running. The cage is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As open bearings are designed without integrated sealing washers, application-specific lubrication with grease or lubricating oil is required prior to commissioning. It is also advisable to fit an external housing seal to protect the rolling bearing against the ingress of contaminants and moisture.
The model is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This tolerance class meets the standard requirements in industrial mechanical engineering and provides coordinated dimensional and concentricity accuracies for shafts and housing bores within the standard tolerance range.
The distinctive feature lies in the outer ring, the inner raceway of which is shaped as a continuous hollow spherical surface. The two rows of balls in the inner ring can tilt freely within this spherical surface. The bearing thus compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing, or for deflection in long shafts, during operation without causing increased edge wear.
