FAG 2209 -TVH-C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing with a 45 mm bore, a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway and a slightly increased C3 radial clearance for angularly adjustable mountings.
The FAG 2209 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing by design. In this double-row rolling bearing, the rolling elements run on two raceways of the inner ring and in a common spherical outer ring raceway. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 with dimensions of 45 x 85 x 23 mm and standard tolerance P0/PN, the component can handle radial loads with shaft deflections in the range from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers opt for this design when misalignment or elastic deflection of long shafts is to be expected. The self-aligning bearing dynamically compensates for such angular misalignments during operation without exerting any significant stress on the ball rows. Typical applications include bearing arrangements with long shafts and applications where misalignment is a potential issue. As an open variant, the bearing is designed to be lubricated via the surrounding housing.
The polyamide material (cage code TVH) guides the balls with low friction and dampens operating noise. In combination with the increased C3 bearing clearance, smooth running is maintained even when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings. Tight fits on the shaft also reduce bearing play once installed, which is why the C3 radial clearance helps to prevent seizing. When fitting open roller bearings, care must always be taken to ensure a clean installation environment and the selection of a suitable lubricant.
This double-row roller bearing has a spherical raceway in the outer ring, allowing the inner ring and ball set to adjust freely. It automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection. This version features a low-noise polyamide cage and an increased clearance (C3) for demanding thermal conditions.
The spherical roller bearing has an inside diameter of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 85 mm and a width across flats of 23 mm. These key dimensions comply with the standardised metric size series for roller bearings with a cylindrical bore.
The suffix TVH denotes a polyamide cage with ball guidance. This cage is characterised by its low mass and elastic properties, and helps to ensure quiet running of the rolling elements.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This reserve is useful when tight fits cause the bearing rings to expand, or when operational temperature differences between the shaft and the housing reduce the internal clearance.
As this open bearing does not have integrated sealing washers, lubrication is provided externally via grease or oil in the bearing housing. The choice of lubricant and suitable housing seals depends on the specific operating conditions and the component’s environment.
This bearing, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with a polyamide cage, is specified for use within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the material and the cage retain their mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
