SKF 2308 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing with polyamide cage, 40 mm bore and 90 mm outer diameter, designed to compensate for static and dynamic misalignment.
The SKF 2308 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to the spherical raceway in the outer ring, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment or slight shaft deflection. This open design without an integrated seal features a standard cylindrical bore, standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1) for standard industrial applications.
The design compensates for misalignment between housing seats and elastic deflection of rotating shafts. Thanks to the self-aligning action in the outer ring, the rolling bearing reduces excessive edge pressures on the raceways. Typical applications include industrial shaft bearings where housing misalignment occurs or deflection under load is to be expected.
Thanks to the double-row ball arrangement, the design primarily accommodates radial forces whilst also handling axial forces in both directions. The open bearing design allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding machine housing.
The suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage with an adapted internal geometry. The plastic is characterised by its low weight, which keeps the inertial forces of the rolling element set to a minimum during changes in rotational speed. Furthermore, the cage operates with low friction and quietly.
Please note the permissible temperature range: for this material variant, the operating temperature is between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing has an inside diameter of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a total width of 33 mm for cylindrical shaft seats.
The inner surface of the outer ring is shaped as a continuous hollow spherical surface. This allows the two rows of balls, together with the inner ring, to pivot flexibly away from the central position in the event of shaft deflection or angular misalignment of the bearing seats, without any mechanical constraints arising.
The abbreviation ETN9 denotes an optimised internal geometry and a polyamide cage. This choice of material reduces the weight of the roller guide and contributes to the bearing’s low-friction operation.
The permissible operating temperature ranges from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The main limiting factor here is the polyamide of the cage, whilst the rings, made of roller bearing steel, are designed to withstand this range.
As an open roller bearing without an integrated seal, lubrication with grease or oil is provided via the housing design. A suitable external housing seal protects the bearing from the ingress of dirt and moisture.
The roller bearing has standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This design is optimised for standard fits and typical operating temperatures without increased bearing clearance.
