The SKF 1311 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing (55x120x29 mm) compensates for misalignment and guides shafts with low friction thanks to its polyamide cage.
The 1311 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing with a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, which automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. With a bore of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, the bearing is suitable for demanding industrial applications. SKF manufactures this version from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The open bearing has a standard radial clearance and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The use of this self-aligning ball bearing is particularly recommended for bearing arrangements where misalignment occurs between the housing and the shaft, or where shafts deflect elastically. Relevant fields of application include general mechanical engineering and designs with separately arranged housing seats. Thanks to the shared spherical raceway in the outer ring, the two rows of balls self-align. This reduces edge stresses on the rolling elements and contributes to smooth running even with slight misalignments.
The suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage, which guides the balls and keeps the bearing’s own weight low. The material dampens shocks and vibrations and exhibits favourable friction properties when moving in the lubricant. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, installation requires a clean environment and an external lubricant supply. Ensure that the selected grease or lubricating oil is suitable for the temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The main dimensions are a bore diameter of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. These dimensions define the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing seat. Due to its double-row design, the bearing complies with the standardised mounting dimensions for self-aligning ball bearings of this nominal size.
At SKF, the suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage with ball bearings. This material is characterised by low inertial forces, elastic properties and reduced running noise. The cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
As an open roller bearing, this design has no integrated seals and is supplied without any grease pre-filled by the manufacturer. It must be filled with a suitable grease or lubricating oil immediately upon installation. External sealing elements on the housing then protect the bearing housing against lubricant leakage.
This version is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, suitable for typical fit conditions and standard operating temperatures. Bearing clearance refers to the radial movement of the rolling elements between the raceways prior to installation. Due to the radial preload resulting from the interference fit, this clearance is reduced once the bearing is installed and in operation.
Manufacture is carried out in accordance with the standard tolerance P0/PN, which is also classified internationally as ABEC 1. This class specifies the limit deviations for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the bearing rings. It meets the standard precision requirements in general mechanical engineering and allows for the trouble-free replacement of components of the same design.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is determined by the thermal resistance of the polyamide cage and the material properties of the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. To ensure reliable operation, the lubricant used must also be specified for this temperature range.
