The SKF 1309 EKTN9/C3 self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 45x100x25 mm, compensates for angular misalignment and, thanks to its C3 clearance, ensures reliable operation under thermal conditions.
The 1309 EKTN9/C3 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing from SKF with a tapered bore. The design features a common spherical raceway in the outer ring. This enables the bearing to automatically compensate for misalignment between the shaft and the housing during operation. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the component primarily accommodates radial loads as well as low axial forces in both directions. This design effectively compensates for elastic deflections and misalignment.
This self-aligning ball bearing is particularly suitable for applications involving long shafts where misalignment or elastic deflection may occur. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the two rows of balls within the bearing can swivel freely without significantly impeding rotation. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering, where shaft elasticity or housing displacement needs to be compensated for. The open design allows for direct lubrication via the housing with oil or grease, tailored to the respective environmental conditions.
The designation EKTN9/C3 indicates three key design features. The tapered bore with a 1:12 taper allows mounting on a tapered shaft or, using a suitable adapter sleeve, on a cylindrical shaft. The suffix C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This additional radial clearance compensates for the reduction in bearing clearance that occurs when the bearing is pushed onto the tapered seat and when it heats up. The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The double-row bearing is designed with a bore diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm. The bore has a taper ratio of 1:12. This taper must be taken into account during fitting, as the nominal diameter refers to the larger dimension of the bore.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. When pressed onto a tapered seat or a clamping sleeve, the inner ring expands, reducing the clearance. The C3 clearance ensures that, after assembly, sufficient operating clearance remains to ensure smooth running.
The polyamide cage (code TN9) is characterised by its low weight, elastic properties and favourable sliding characteristics. It reliably guides the two rows of balls within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and contributes to the low-vibration operation of the roller bearing.
The bearing can be fitted either directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a suitable adapter sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. The inner ring expands precisely as it is pushed onto the shaft axially. The reduction in bearing clearance can be checked during installation by measuring the displacement or using a feeler gauge.
Without integrated sealing washers, the open design allows for the flexible supply of grease or lubricating oil directly through the housing structure. There is no friction caused by seals whatsoever. External seals must be fitted in the bearing housing to protect against contamination and moisture.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 (equivalent to PN and ABEC 1), the component complies with standardised dimensional and running tolerances for the dimensions 45x100x25 mm. This accuracy class meets the standard requirements in mechanical engineering and ensures reliable interchangeability.
