The SKF 1206 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 30 × 62 × 16 mm, compensates for misalignment and supports shafts with low friction.
The SKF 1206 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel with a cylindrical bore. Thanks to the shared spherical raceway in the outer ring, the two rows of balls automatically adjust to shaft deflection or misalignment. With a bore of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a width of 16 mm, this design complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). The component primarily accommodates radial forces as well as low axial loads in both directions.
Designs featuring long shafts or split housings are prone to elastic deflection and misalignment during operation. This rolling bearing compensates for such angular misalignments directly within the bearing itself, without edge pressure or increased friction impairing its function. Typical applications can be found in mechanical engineering and in shaft mountings where there is a risk of deflection. The design is specifically intended for applications where the shaft is misaligned with the bearing housing.
The suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage that guides the balls and keeps lubricant requirements to a minimum. Compared with solid metal cages, the plastic cage offers the advantages of low weight, minimal inertia and smooth running characteristics. This open bearing has a specified permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees. As the design is open, the lubricant is selected to suit the operating conditions and the bearing location is protected by the housing.
A continuous spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the two rows of balls to move freely. As a result, the double-row bearing automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing. In combination with the lightweight polyamide cage, this design ensures low-vibration operation with minimal friction.
With an inner diameter of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a width of 16 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. The inner ring is manufactured as a standard cylindrical design. The dimensional and running tolerances comply with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
At SKF, the suffix ETN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by its low weight, dampens vibrations and reduces inertia in the rotating bearing assembly compared with solid metal cages.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, the rings made of 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and the polyamide cage retain their mechanical properties. The choice of lubricant should be tailored to this operating temperature range.
As there are no integrated seals, sealing is achieved via external housing components such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals. Depending on the requirements and speed, either grease or oil lubrication is used, which can be maintained regularly via the housing.
The bearing is designed with standard radial clearance (CN). This clearance is suitable for standard fits and typical operating temperatures, at which the thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring remains within the normal range.
