The FAG 2209-tvh double-row self-aligning ball bearing with a polyamide cage compensates for angular misalignment by design and is suitable for 85 mm housing bores.
The 2209-tvh self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel for applications where misalignment or shaft deflection occurs. Thanks to the shared hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, the two rows of balls self-align during operation. This open design with standard radial clearance has an outer diameter of 85 mm and a width of 23 mm, and is mounted directly onto the shaft via the cylindrical bore.
Design engineers primarily use this double-row bearing where shafts deflect elastically under load or where housing bores have misalignment caused by manufacturing tolerances. The 2209-tvh self-aligning ball bearing accommodates radial loads and compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings without a significant increase in friction. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering in bearing arrangements with longer shafts or where two bearing positions must be aligned on separate bearing seats.
The integrated polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight and favourable sliding properties relative to the rolling elements. As a result, the bearing runs quietly and reduces dynamic stress within the lubricating film. When using this bearing, the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 °C must be observed. As this is an unsealed bearing, users must incorporate external seals into the housing and adapt the lubricant supply to the operating conditions.
A shared spherical outer ring raceway for two rows of balls enables automatic compensation for angular misalignment and shaft deflection. This design features a cylindrical bore, an outside diameter of 85 mm, a width of 23 mm and a lightweight polyamide cage.
The polyamide cage guides the two rows of balls with low friction and low mass. The elastic plastic dampens vibrations and reduces running noise. Furthermore, this material determines the bearing’s operating temperature range, which is between –30 and +120 °C.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance as supplied, prior to installation. This standard value is designed for common fits between the shaft and housing, as well as for normal operating temperatures, so that sufficient operating clearance is maintained after the bearing rings have been pressed into place.
As an open roller bearing, this variant has no integrated cover plates or sealing discs. The lubricant therefore reaches the raceways and rolling elements directly. To protect against contamination and lubricant loss, housing seals, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, must be incorporated into the surrounding structure.
The cylindrical bore of the inner ring is fitted with a precise fit directly onto the cylindrical bearing seat on the shaft. As self-aligning ball bearings cannot be dismantled, mechanical or thermal mounting forces must always be applied to the inner ring. This is to prevent mounting forces from being transmitted via the rolling elements and damaging the spherical raceway.
