Single-row SKF deep groove ball bearing 6217 -2Z/C3 with dimensions 85x150x28 mm, non-contacting sheet metal end shields and C3 clearance for industrial drives.
The SKF 6217 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads, whilst also accommodating axial forces in both directions. With a bore of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, this single-row bearing is suitable for medium-sized to heavy-duty shaft designs. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and featuring an integrated sheet steel cage, it offers high dimensional stability within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this bearing in industrial drives and rotating shaft assemblies with increased thermal requirements. As the outer ring has no flange or groove, the component can be easily fitted into cylindrical housing bores. The sheet metal cover on both sides protects the interior from coarse dirt particles and foreign bodies without causing significant friction losses. This makes the unit suitable for continuous operation at moderate levels of environmental contamination.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This variant is recommended where tight fits on the shaft and housing eliminate part of the radial clearance, or where temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation. The additional bearing clearance reduces the risk of operational stress on the rolling elements. In combination with the standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1, this version offers reliable concentricity characteristics.
The component has an internal diameter of 85 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a total width of 28 mm. These standardised main dimensions are suitable for single-row radial deep-groove ball bearings. The outer ring has a cylindrical end face without a flange or snap ring groove.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides, which shield the interior of the bearing from coarse particles. The suffix C3 indicates a radially increased bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This enables the bearing to compensate for operational thermal expansion and fit allowances without the rolling elements becoming jammed.
Type 2Z cover washers form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They do not cause any additional friction and allow for higher speeds with low heat generation. Rubber sealing discs, on the other hand, make contact in a sliding manner; they offer greater protection against liquids but generate more frictional heat.
The bearing is specified for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is supported by the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the robust sheet steel cage. Where temperatures are consistently higher than 120 degrees, special heat treatments and specialised lubricants must be taken into account.
In this design, a stamped sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceway. Sheet steel cages are lightweight, resistant to impact loads and unaffected by most lubricants. They require little installation space and ensure that the bearing is suitable for standard industrial temperatures as standard.
The roller bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This class meets the standard precision requirements in general mechanical engineering and allows the bearing to be fitted onto standard shafts and in standard housings.
