The SKF 6306 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing combines dimensions of 30x72x19 mm with non-contact end shields and a slightly increased C3 bearing clearance.
The SKF 6306 -2Z/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and classified in tolerance class P0, this rolling bearing provides a solid foundation for industrial drives. The sheet-metal end shields on both sides keep dirt particles out of the bearing interior, whilst the increased bearing clearance compensates for thermal expansion during operation. With a 30 mm bore, 72 mm outer diameter and 19 mm width, the bearing fits into numerous standardised housings.
This design is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to radial and moderate axial loads, where operational heating occurs or tight fits reduce the radial bearing clearance. As the non-contacting 2Z cover plates do not make frictional contact with the inner ring, the rolling bearing rotates with low resistance even at higher speeds. This design is recommended where basic protection against dirt particles is required within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. The integrated sheet steel cage maintains a precise spacing between the rolling elements.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance serves to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed should the shaft expand more than the surrounding housing during operation. The cover plates on both sides protect the interior from solid particles without generating any additional frictional torque. When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that the outer ring has no groove or flange and that the bearing has no electrical insulation.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 30 mm, an external diameter of 72 mm and a width of 19 mm. These standardised key dimensions facilitate precise fitting onto suitable shafts and into cylindrical housing bores, as the outer ring is designed without a groove or flange.
C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the conventional standard design. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways compensates for dimensional changes when tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings reduce the clearance during operation.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates on both sides made of profiled sheet steel, which form a non-contacting gap with the inner ring. Unlike rubbing rubber seals, they do not generate any additional friction or heat, yet provide an effective barrier against coarse dirt particles and foreign bodies.
This roller bearing is designed for an operating range of -20 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, the sheet steel cage and the standard 100Cr6 roller bearing steel remain dimensionally stable. For applications outside this range, thermal effects on fit and clearance should be taken into account separately.
A sturdy sheet-steel cage operates within the bearing, keeping the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another. This cage design is characterised by its low weight, requires little space inside the bearing and can withstand permissible operating temperatures of up to +120 degrees without any loss of dimensional stability.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1. This standard tolerance meets the requirements of general mechanical engineering and allows for straightforward installation with standardised fits for cylindrical shafts and housing bores.
