The SKF 6221 /C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 105 × 190 × 36 mm and increased bearing clearance, offers reliable running characteristics under demanding operating conditions.
The 6221/C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing from SKF, made from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6). With a bore of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm, this bearing primarily accommodates radial loads and axial forces in both directions. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely at operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 °C. Manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), this version is suitable for standardised installation in mechanical and plant engineering.
It is recommended for use in bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and requiring axial guidance in both directions. The design, which has no contact seals, allows for direct connection to circulating oil lubrication systems or an external grease supply. An increased internal bearing clearance is particularly advantageous when thermal effects or tight fits reduce the operating clearance. As the bearing is manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, the raceways and balls are designed to withstand high mechanical cyclic loads.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by heating during operation. The C3 bearing clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from seizing if tight press fits on the 105 mm shaft or in the 190 mm housing cause the inner ring to expand. As the bearing is of an open design and has no sealing ring, the bearing housing must be protected from contamination by external housing seals.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm. Both the inner and outer rings are cylindrical. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which facilitates installation in smooth housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates an increased internal radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed should temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation, or should tight fits on the shaft and housing constrict the raceway.
The bearing can be used within an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 °C. As this is an open bearing with a sheet steel cage and no elastic sealing lips, the thermal load capacity of the bearing location is essentially determined by the lubricant used and the ambient conditions.
In the open design, there are no integrated cover plates or sealing discs, meaning that the rolling elements and the sheet steel cage are freely accessible. This allows for free lubricant circulation in an oil bath or via centralised lubrication systems. At the same time, this design requires the housing to be sealed externally against dirt and moisture.
The bearing rings and rolling elements are made from hardened standard bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by high strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability under load. The design is complemented by a robust sheet steel cage, which maintains an even spacing between the balls.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (comparable to ABEC 1). This standard tolerance meets the typical requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. Standardised shaft and housing seats can be selected for assembly.
