SKF 634-2Z compact deep-groove ball bearing with a 4 mm bore, 16 mm outer diameter and sheet metal end shields on both sides for protected shaft mountings.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 634 -2Z from SKF primarily accommodates radial loads as well as low axial forces in both directions. The rings and rolling elements are made of case-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), guided by a sturdy sheet steel cage. With compact main dimensions of 4 x 16 x 5 mm, this miniature bearing is suitable for precision designs with very limited installation space. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) with normal radial clearance for standard mounting conditions.
Small shaft diameters require space-saving rolling bearing components with precise guidance. This size is primarily used in precision mechanical assemblies and compact devices where installation space is limited and smooth running is required. The cylindrical outer ring, without a groove or flange, fits precisely and flush into prepared housing bores. Within the permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees, the rolling bearing retains its dimensional stability and reliably copes with a wide range of industrial operating conditions.
The suffix ‘-2Z’ denotes cover plates mounted on both sides, made from profiled sheet steel. These gap seals help to protect the bearing interior from coarse dirt particles and reduce lubricant loss. As the sheet metal discs sit in front of the inner ring shoulder without making contact, no additional friction or heat build-up occurs. The component can therefore achieve similarly high speeds to an open bearing, whilst significantly reducing the need for external seals in the shaft design.
With an internal diameter of 4 mm, an external diameter of 16 mm and a width of 5 mm, this ball bearing belongs to the miniature series. The rings and balls are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has no flange or groove.
Two non-contacting cover discs made of sheet steel, fitted on both sides of the outer ring, define the designation -2Z. They act as a gap seal to protect against coarse particles and reduce lubricant leakage without causing additional friction losses due to sliding contact.
The bearing is designed with standard radial clearance. This design provides a balanced operating clearance for typical fits on the shaft and housing, provided that no unusually high temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation.
The specified operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is limited by the interaction of standard roller bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the sheet metal end plates, which retain their geometric dimensional stability within this range.
This version is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 internationally. This classification specifies the permissible limit deviations for dimensional, form and concentricity accuracy in accordance with current rolling bearing standards.
