The FAG 6307-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 35 × 80 × 21 mm and increased bearing clearance, is designed for operation under thermal stress.
The 6307-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing for demanding rotational movements in industry and the trades. With a bore of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm, the component primarily transmits radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. FAG manufactures this rolling bearing from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6 with a sheet steel cage. The version without integrated sealing washers allows direct contact with the lubricant selected by the customer.
Design engineers prefer to use this open bearing in enclosed assemblies where lubricant circulates via the surrounding housing system. As the design does not require seals, there are no friction losses at the sealing lips. This makes it suitable for applications involving higher speeds. At the same time, the open design requires a clean installation environment to prevent dirt particles and moisture from reaching the raceways and rolling elements unhindered.
The suffix ‘C3’ indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and the grooved raceways helps to compensate for thermal expansion when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Furthermore, the increased bearing clearance reduces the risk of stress in the case of tight fits on the shaft and housing. The bearing covers a temperature range from -20 to +150 degrees and complies with tolerance class P0.
With a bore diameter of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm, the roller bearing complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. These dimensions facilitate replacement during repairs and integration into existing housing designs.
C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard bearing clearance group. This increased radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways helps to prevent the bearing from seizing up should the shaft or housing heat up during operation, or should fits restrict the clearance.
Open ball bearings do not have integrated cover plates or sealing rings. This design minimises torque by eliminating sealing friction and allows for a free supply of lubricant via an external oil bath or a centralised lubrication system. However, the surrounding machine components must shield the bearing from the ingress of dust, swarf and moisture.
Both the rings and the rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. A guided sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance from one another. This combination of materials is designed for use in environments with operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
In accordance with the specification, the bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which is equivalent to the ABEC 1 rating. This accuracy class covers typical requirements in general mechanical engineering and defines permissible deviations in dimensions, shape and running for uniform concentricity during operation.
As the bearing is of an open design, it requires a supply of suitable bearing grease or lubricating oil during assembly or via the housing system. Lubrication intervals and the type of lubricant depend on the thermal load, the speed and the environmental conditions in the machine in question.
