The FAG 6301-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 12 × 37 × 12 mm, offers increased bearing clearance for demanding thermal and dynamic operating conditions.
The 6301-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with a 12 mm bore, an outer diameter of 37 mm and a width of 12 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the design is primarily suited to radial loads and moderate axial forces. As an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, this version is particularly suitable for systems with a locally supplied lubricant supply. Manufactured by FAG, the component complies with standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1 and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
This bearing is primarily used in machine units and gearboxes where housing seals or oil-bath lubrication are present. As the bearing is of an open design, lubricant flows unhindered to the rolling elements and the sheet steel cage. Designs with varying operating temperatures benefit from this design, as the inner and outer rings can expand to different degrees during operation without adversely affecting running characteristics. As a result, the unit is used for precise shaft support in general mechanical engineering.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal linear expansion when the shaft and housing reach different temperatures. This clearance also prevents seizing in tight fits. When designing the system, you should bear in mind that open roller bearings must be protected from foreign particles. A clean operating environment or external sealing elements help to ensure that dirt particles do not enter the raceways prematurely.
The roller bearing has an inner diameter of 12 mm, an outer diameter of 37 mm and a width of 12 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a groove nor a flange, which means the component fits precisely into standard housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates an increased internal radial bearing clearance compared with standard conditions. This feature ensures that the shaft can expand when heated without the rolling elements becoming jammed. Particularly at high speeds or where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, the balls continue to run smoothly on the raceways.
Open deep-groove ball bearings do not have integrated seals or cover plates, which allows lubricants such as oil or grease to circulate freely from the surrounding system. At the same time, frictional resistance is reduced because there are no sealing lips in contact with the inner ring. However, their use requires a housing seal to be fitted on site to protect against the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant.
The bearing is designed for operation within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. The standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage retain their dimensional accuracy within this range. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil used is specified for the relevant ambient temperature.
In this design, a stamped sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their low weight combined with high mechanical strength. They are resistant to common industrial oils and greases and can operate over a wide temperature range from -20 to +150 degrees without any loss of stability.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard tolerance meets the accuracy requirements of general mechanical engineering and drive technology. It enables the cost-effective manufacture of bearing seats whilst ensuring precise guidance of rotating shafts.
