The SKF 6220 deep groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing measuring 100 × 180 × 34 mm, designed for combined radial and axial loads.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6220 from SKF Rolling Bearings accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel in the SKF Explorer performance class, this bearing is suitable for demanding industrial applications in mechanical and plant engineering. With an inside diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this model complies with standard industrial dimensions. The standardised geometry simplifies design for new constructions and repairs.
This rolling bearing is primarily fitted to rotating shafts with a diameter of 100 mm that are subject to combined forces. As it is an open bearing without integrated sealing rings, it can be integrated directly into oil circulation systems or lubricated with grease. The design primarily absorbs radial forces and provides axial guidance for shafts. Under operating conditions between –20 and +120 degrees, this version functions as a universal machine component.
As an open bearing, this design has no sliding seals, resulting in lower friction losses compared to contact-sealed variants. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway. The standard radial clearance is designed to suit standard fit conditions. Thanks to manufacture to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, the component can be fitted precisely onto shafts and into housings without a groove or flange. External housing seals protect the open raceways from contamination.
With an internal bore of 100 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is finished smooth, without a flange or ring groove. This ensures that the component fits precisely into cylindrical housing bores in mechanical engineering applications.
In an open design, the bearing does not require sealing or cover plates. The balls and the sheet steel cage are exposed, which facilitates the supply of lubricating oil or external grease. With this design, users must ensure that housing seals prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the design clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It helps to ensure that the bearing runs smoothly after being pressed onto the shaft and under normal operating temperatures. For standard applications, this type of bearing clearance is the usual choice.
The permissible temperature range for this roller bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or oil is suitable for these temperatures.
Both the raceways and the rolling elements are made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel of type 100Cr6. The ball cage is made from pressed sheet steel. This combination of materials offers high dimensional stability under typical industrial loads. The bearing has no electrical insulation.
This roller bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This specification governs the dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the inner and outer rings. This level of accuracy fully meets the standard requirements for precision in general mechanical engineering.
