The FAG 6218 -2RSR deep groove ball bearing, measuring 90x160x30 mm and featuring a ground seal on both sides, protects the raceways from dirt and moisture.
The FAG 6218-2RSR single-row deep groove ball bearing is designed for industrial applications subject to radial forces and moderate axial loads. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, this bearing is characterised by high dimensional stability. Thanks to its main dimensions – a 90 mm bore, 160 mm outside diameter and 30 mm width – this version is suitable as a replacement component during maintenance work or for new designs in mechanical engineering. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements through the raceway system with minimal vibration.
This deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for designs and shaft mountings in general mechanical engineering where primarily radial loads and moderate axial forces occur. Thanks to the standard radial clearance (CN), the component operates smoothly at balanced operating temperatures between –20 and +100 degrees. Design engineers prefer to use this version in assemblies and industrial drives with a 90 mm shaft diameter where a sealed bearing arrangement is required.
The designation 2RSR stands for contact-type sliding seals made of elastomeric material, fitted on both sides. These sealing lips seal off the interior of the bearing against the ingress of dust, dirt particles and splash water. At the same time, they retain the grease within the bearing housing, which reduces the need for relubrication. When selecting the design, bear in mind that the friction generated by the sliding seal affects heat build-up; therefore, the permissible temperature range of –20 to +100 degrees should not be exceeded.
With a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm, the bearing complies with standardised mounting dimensions. It features a cylindrical outer ring without a flange or groove. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance or ABEC 1), it fits into standardised housing and shaft seats.
The designation 2RSR indicates contact-type sliding seals made of elastomeric material, fitted on both sides. These seals make direct contact with the contact surfaces of the inner ring. They protect the rolling elements from solid contaminants and moisture, whilst at the same time preventing lubricant from escaping from inside the bearing.
This version features the standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This standard clearance is designed for operating conditions in which there are no significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. When fitted, it serves to ensure balanced operating clearance and smooth guidance of the rolling elements with low frictional resistance.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +100 degrees Celsius. This range is essentially determined by the material of the sealing lips and the lubricant. If temperatures remain high for prolonged periods, elastomeric seals may harden; therefore, the limit values must be adhered to in the design.
A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along their circular path. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their low weight and good strength. They take up little space inside the bearing and allow for unimpeded grease distribution around the balls made of 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel.
Both the rolling elements and the inner and outer rings are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This chromium-alloyed steel offers high wear resistance, low-fatigue running characteristics and dimensional stability under recurring radial loads in industrial operation. This model does not feature electrical insulation.
