The SKF 6217-2Z deep groove ball bearing, measuring 85x150x28 mm, offers reliable protection against contamination whilst primarily handling radial loads.
The 6217-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, with an inner diameter of 85 mm and an outer diameter of 150 mm. With a width of 28 mm, this rolling bearing can withstand high radial forces as well as moderate axial forces. The design, which belongs to the SKF Explorer performance class, features a robust sheet steel cage and is suitable for operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The non-contacting cover plates on both sides keep foreign particles out without generating additional frictional heat during continuous operation.
The bearing is primarily used on rotating shafts subject to predominantly radial loads and higher speeds. Thanks to the standard radial clearance and the sturdy, flangeless outer ring, the unit can be fitted precisely into standardised cylindrical housings. This design is suitable for environments where basic protection against coarse particles is required, without abrasive seals limiting the rotational speed.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover plates pressed in on both sides, made from profiled sheet steel, which form a narrow gap with the inner ring shoulder. This gap seal minimises lubricant leakage and protects the raceways from dry contaminants. As the sheet metal discs operate without contact, the frictional torque remains low, which prevents thermal losses and allows for use at temperatures up to +120 degrees Celsius. For applications involving direct contact with liquids, however, contact seals are preferable.
With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, this model complies with the standard dimensions for single-row radial ball bearings. The cylindrical outer ring has no ring groove or flanges, which means the component can be fitted flush into the corresponding mounting bores.
The designation -2Z refers to two non-contacting cover plates made of sheet steel, which are fitted to the left and right of the outer ring. They protect the interior of the rolling bearing from dust particles and, unlike sliding seals, do not create any additional frictional resistance on the shaft.
The permissible operating range is between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is supported by the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the metal cover plates. The component is therefore suitably designed to cope with typical temperature profiles encountered in mechanical engineering and industrial drives.
Manufactured with normal radial bearing clearance, this design is suitable for standard mounting fits and standard operating temperatures. The rolling elements have a defined radial clearance when unloaded, which allows minor thermal expansion of the shaft and housing to be accommodated without causing premature stress.
A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along their circular path. The sheet steel cage is characterised by its low weight, is resistant to lubricants and ensures smooth running within the specified temperature range.
In accordance with tolerance classes P0/PN and ABEC 1, the bearing has standardised dimensional and runout tolerances. This standard precision defines tight tolerance ranges for the inner and outer rings and is suitable for precise fits on conventional shafts and in cylindrical housing bores.
