The SKF 6214/C3 open deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 70 × 125 × 24 mm and C3 bearing clearance, allows for thermal expansion under radial and axial loads.
The 6214/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from SKF, manufactured from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage. This design combines a 70 mm inner bore with an outer diameter of 125 mm and a width of 24 mm. As an open bearing without an integrated seal, this variant is designed for installation environments with an external lubricant supply via oil or grease. The design accommodates radial forces as well as axial forces acting in both directions.
The 6214 /C3 deep groove ball bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements with a 70 mm shaft diameter where combined loads occur. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance or ABEC 1), the component fits into cylindrical housing seats without a flange or groove. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius, thereby covering applications with significant operational heating.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with standard clearance. When the shaft and inner ring heat up during operation, they often expand more than the outer ring. The increased radial clearance helps to ensure that the rolling elements do not jam and that unnecessary friction is avoided. Before installation, it must be checked whether the operating temperature and fit selection require this additional radial clearance in order to avoid bearing stresses.
The roller bearing has a bore of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 125 mm and a width of 24 mm. Thanks to these standard dimensions, the component can be fitted into housing bores without a flange or groove. The outer ring is cylindrical in design.
The increased C3 radial clearance compensates for dimensional changes when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Tight fits on the shaft also reduce the clearance. The C3 radial clearance prevents undesirable stresses and ensures that the rolling elements can roll freely when heated.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The design, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and featuring a robust sheet steel cage, can withstand these temperatures. When selecting a lubricant, ensure that it is suitable for this temperature range as well.
As an open roller bearing, this design has no integrated sealing washers. This allows lubricating oil or grease from the surrounding housing to reach the raceways and rolling elements unhindered. In the case of open bearings, the housing design generally protects against the ingress of dirt, whilst the lubricant is supplied externally or via an oil bath.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy class meets the requirements of common mechanical engineering applications in an industrial environment. It allows for trouble-free fitting onto standard shafts and into standard housing seats.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings primarily support radial loads perpendicular to the shaft. Thanks to the deep grooves in the inner and outer rings, they also transmit axial forces in both directions. The component is therefore suitable for dynamic bearing arrangements in which combined loads act on the shaft.
