The SKF 6211-RS1/C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 55 x 100 x 21 mm, with a single-sided seal and increased bearing clearance, ensures smooth running under thermal stress.
The SKF 6211 -RS1/C3 from SKF is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6), with an inner diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 21 mm. It accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. The design combines a robust sheet steel cage with a single-sided seal and a slightly increased clearance (C3). This configuration is primarily intended for bearing installations where thermal expansion needs to be compensated for and where single-sided protection against particles is sufficient.
This deep-groove ball bearing is typically used where one side of the bearing housing is specifically lubricated by the interior of the housing. As the design features a single RS1 contact seal on one side, the open side remains accessible for lubricant supply. At the same time, the sealing lip shields the bearing against the ingress of external contaminants. Manufacture to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) ensures the required fit accuracy on the shaft and in the housing seat.
The increased C3 bearing clearance provides the rolling elements with additional radial clearance. If, during operation, temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings, or if loose fits cause the inner ring to expand, this excess clearance prevents the balls from becoming jammed. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The single-sided RS1 seal protects the raceway from contaminants and generates less friction compared to designs that are sealed on both sides.
The roller bearing has a bore of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 21 mm. The outer ring has no flange or groove. These metric dimensions comply with the standardised 6211 series and allow for installation in standardised housing and shaft seats.
The abbreviation RS1 denotes a single-sided, sliding seal. The sealing lip makes a resilient contact with the inner ring and shields the interior from dirt particles and moisture. The opposite side remains open, allowing lubricants from the housing to reach the raceways unhindered.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion, for example due to temperature differences between the shaft and the housing. Furthermore, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for any reduction in radial clearance caused by fit allowances during assembly.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. These limits are determined by the thermal resistance of standard roller bearing steel and the material of the sealing lip. Applications outside this range require separate sealing and lubrication solutions.
The model is fitted with a sheet steel cage. This guides the rolling elements, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), at regular intervals along the raceway of the single-row bearing. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their stability and resistance to the specified operating temperatures.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN or equivalent to ABEC 1). This design offers dimensional, geometric and running accuracy in accordance with the relevant standards. It is designed for standard bearing seats on machined shafts and in housing bores in general mechanical engineering.
