The SKF 6209 -2RS1/C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 45x85x19 mm, with double-sided laboured seals and a C3 clearance, offers protection against contamination under thermal loads.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6209 -2RS1/C3 is a radial ball bearing from SKF. It primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and fitted with a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage, this rolling bearing is designed for demanding industrial applications. The 2RS1 seals on both sides protect the bearing interior from dirt particles, whilst the permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius defines the operating conditions.
This radial deep-groove ball bearing is typically used in rotating systems and mechanical drive units where rotational speeds, temperature rise and exposure to contaminants all come into play. The contact seals, which provide sealing on both sides, are designed for environments subject to dust or splashing water. Designs in general mechanical engineering utilise the version with rolling elements made from standard rolling-bearing steel when low-maintenance bearing arrangements with defined installation dimensions are required.
The slightly increased factory-set radial bearing clearance (C3) compensates for operational thermal expansion without causing the rolling elements to become stressed. This is recommended for tight fits on the 45 mm shaft or where there are temperature gradients between the inner and outer rings. This is complemented by the 2RS1 sealing discs, which seal on both sides, retaining the lubricant within the bearing and keeping solid contaminants out. Before installation, check whether the tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 meets the requirements of the bearing housing.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a width of 19 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, meaning it can be fitted flush into housing bores with the appropriate tolerances.
C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased radial clearance serves to accommodate temperature-induced expansion of the shaft and inner ring during operation, in order to prevent undesirable stresses and increased friction within the bearing.
Sealing discs made of a flexible sealing material, fitted on both sides and designed to slide against the bearing, protect the interior of the bearing from dust, dirt and moisture. The sealing lips rest against the shoulders of the inner ring and, at the same time, retain the lubricant within the rolling chamber.
The component is specified for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is determined by the lubricant, the sealing material and the sheet steel cage, and is suitable for typical thermal conditions in industrial bearings.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The rolling elements are guided by a lightweight sheet steel cage, which ensures uniform spacing and supports smooth running during normal operation.
The bearings are manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 rating. This manufacturing precision meets the typical requirements for concentricity and fitting accuracy in mechanical engineering.
