The SKF 6206 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing features standardised dimensions of 30x62x16 mm, sheet metal shields on both sides and increased bearing clearance for drives subject to thermal stress.
The SKF 6206 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, with a bore diameter of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 62 mm and a width of 16 mm. Designed to accommodate radial and moderate axial loads in both directions, this version features non-contacting sheet steel cover plates on both sides. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway. The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), ensuring that the component fits precisely into standardised bearing housings.
Industrial drives and rotating shafts constitute the primary field of application for this deep groove ball bearing. Thanks to the non-contact cover plates, coarse dirt cannot penetrate the raceway, whilst lubricant loss is minimised without generating additional frictional heat. Operating at temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees, the unit is used in shaft bearings subject to continuous rotation. The design directly absorbs radial forces and guides shafts with low rotational resistance.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard bearing design. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal expansion when the shaft or housing heats up. Even with tight fits, the C3 clearance helps to prevent the bearing from seizing during operation. Together with the Z-type end plates on both sides, this ball bearing is suitable for applications involving higher speeds, where low friction and thermal reserves are equally important.
With an internal diameter of 30 mm, an external diameter of 62 mm and a width of 16 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions of the 6206 series. The cylindrical outer ring is designed without a groove or flange. As it is manufactured to standard tolerance class P0, the bearing can be fitted onto shafts and housing bores with matching tolerances.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These gap seals protect the interior of the bearing from the ingress of dust and solid foreign particles. As the sheet metal discs do not come into contact with the inner ring, no additional friction is generated, which facilitates high rotational speeds and keeps temperature rise to a minimum during continuous operation.
An increased radial bearing clearance (C3) provides a margin of safety should temperature differences arise during operation between the rotating inner ring and the stationary outer ring. When heated, the shaft often expands more than the housing, causing the internal bearing clearance to decrease. The C3 clearance counteracts stress on the rolling elements and prevents premature wear under load.
This roller bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. The combination of steel rings, a sheet steel cage and sheet metal end plates retains its dimensional stability and mechanical strength within this range, provided that lubrication is appropriate for the operating conditions.
The bearing features a sheet steel cage. This keeps the single-row arrangement of rolling elements at a uniform distance and prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their low weight, good lubricant permeability and resistance to common industrial oils and greases.
Cover discs marked with the code Z or 2Z are non-contact metal gap seals that provide protection against dirt particles without any frictional resistance. Whilst contact rubber seals provide a tighter seal against moisture and liquids, the contact with the sealing lip generates additional frictional heat, which reduces the permissible speed compared with the Z variant.
