The SKF 6203-2Z deep groove ball bearing, with a 17 mm bore, sheet metal end shields on both sides and P6/P5 tolerances, ensures smooth running for compact shaft mountings.
The 6203-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard roller bearing steel by SKF, in the Explorer performance class. With a bore of 17 mm, an outside diameter of 40 mm and a width of 12 mm, this rolling bearing primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces. The cover plates on both sides protect the interior from dirt particles, whilst the integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly. Thanks to its standard radial clearance, the component is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
This deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for designs with limited installation space that are subject to predominantly radial loads and medium to high speeds. As the non-contacting sheet metal end shields do not cause any additional friction at the sealing lips, heat build-up during operation remains low. The design functions as a fixed or floating bearing in clean to moderately dusty installation environments without direct exposure to liquids.
The sheet metal covers on both sides keep out solid foreign matter and retain the lubricant inside the bearing. As these are non-contact gap seals, temperature rise during operation remains low. This model combines dimensional accuracy to P6 with finer running accuracy to P5. This reduces radial runout compared with conventional standard bearings. Design engineers and maintenance personnel choose this specification when assemblies need to rotate with low vibration and precise concentricity on the 17 mm shaft is required.
With an internal diameter of 17 mm, an external diameter of 40 mm and a width of 12 mm, the roller bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. Thanks to these dimensions, the single-row deep-groove ball bearing fits into corresponding housing bores and onto suitable shaft seats.
-2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a narrow gap with the inner ring and protect the rolling elements from coarse particles. As the cover plates operate without contact, no additional friction is generated, which makes them suitable for use at higher speeds.
P6/P5 denotes dimensional accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P6 and running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5. This means tighter tolerances for bore and external diameters, as well as reduced runout error compared with standard tolerances. This characteristic contributes to smooth, low-vibration operation.
The bearing is specified for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, a sheet steel cage and metal end plates are designed to withstand this temperature range. For applications outside these limits, separate material and lubricant concepts must be taken into account.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is unloaded. It is designed for standard fit combinations on shafts and housings, as well as normal operating temperatures. Where higher temperatures or tight press fits are encountered, variants with increased bearing clearance may be considered.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), which is designed to withstand compressive loads and maintain dimensional stability. A sheet steel cage is used to guide the balls. The side shields are also made of sheet metal, meaning the bearing has an all-metal construction.
