The FAG 6018-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 90 mm bore and increased C3 clearance, offers reliable operation at higher operating temperatures.
The FAG 6018-C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, this version has the main dimensions 90 x 140 x 24 mm. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for direct lubricant supply via the surrounding housing. Thanks to the robust sheet steel cage, the bearing guides the rolling elements smoothly at temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
Applications in general mechanical engineering frequently use this design on shafts with a diameter of 90 mm. Owing to its open design, the bearing is particularly suitable for oil- or grease-lubricated installations where external seals prevent the ingress of dirt particles. The version with standard tolerance P0/PN or ABEC 1 meets the classic requirements of drive technology and maintenance.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. If the shaft and bearing rings expand due to temperature differences during operation, this additional clearance counteracts any stress on the rolling elements. Tight fits on the shaft also reduce the bearing clearance after press-fitting. Before installation, check whether the operating temperatures and fit conditions require the increased operating clearance.
The dimensions are 90 mm internal diameter, 140 mm external diameter and 24 mm width. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no flange or groove. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for this size.
The suffix designation C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than standard. This ensures that sufficient clearance remains between the balls and raceways during operation, even in the event of thermal expansion of the components or tight fits. This prevents unnecessary stresses inside the bearing.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the roller bearing steel and the integrated sheet steel cage remain dimensionally stable within this range. When designing the lubrication system, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is suitable for the actual operating temperature.
As an open bearing without integrated seals, this component is not factory-filled with grease. Lubrication is carried out as required via the surrounding housing using a suitable grease or oil. External housing seals retain the lubricant within the bearing chamber and protect against contamination.
This product is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which also corresponds to the designation ABEC 1. This defines the manufacturing accuracy for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity. This level of accuracy is sufficient for the vast majority of applications in conventional industrial and mechanical engineering.
The rings and balls are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, which offers high strength and wear resistance. A cage made of pressed sheet steel is used to guide and space the balls. The component has no electrical insulation and is intended for use in conventional industrial environments.
