The SKF 6009-Z deep groove ball bearing, with a 45 mm bore, a single-sided Z-end cap and P6 tolerance class, offers precise operation for demanding industrial applications.
The 6009-Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design. With main dimensions of 45 mm inner diameter, 75 mm outer diameter and 16 mm width, this rolling bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. Thanks to its sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for specified speeds in industrial shaft mountings. The single-sided sheet metal cover protects the bearing’s interior from coarse particles, whilst the opposite side remains accessible for relubrication.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use the 6009-Z deep groove ball bearing in shaft arrangements where lubricant is supplied from one side. The single-sided cover keeps coarse dirt out from the outside, whilst fresh lubricant can flow in from the housing via the open side of the bearing. Manufactured to tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3, the bearing ensures low-vibration operation. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius, allowing for use in thermally demanding conditions.
The Z-cover seals the bearing without contact and does not generate any additional frictional torque during operation. Choose this variant if dirt particles can only reach the bearing location from one side and you wish to keep friction to a minimum. Before installation, check the shaft diameter of 45 mm and the housing fit for the 75-mm outer ring without a groove. For applications with contamination on all sides, a double-sided seal is recommended instead, as this model is designed to be completely open on one side.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 75 mm and a total width of 16 mm. These dimensions comply with standardised specifications for radial deep-groove ball bearings. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which facilitates installation in standard housings.
The suffix ‘Z’ denotes a cover plate made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on one side. It acts as a non-contact gap seal against dirt and dust, without generating any braking torque. The opposite side of the bearing remains open, allowing grease or lubricating oil from inside the housing to reach the rolling elements unhindered.
Tolerance class P6 according to ISO corresponds to class ABEC 3 according to the US standard. It specifies tighter manufacturing tolerances for the main dimensions and higher concentricity compared with the standard tolerance. Bearings of this precision grade ensure smooth shaft operation and reduce vibrations at higher speeds.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It is dimensioned such that, with standard fit selections for the shaft and housing and under normal operating temperatures, the bearing clearance required for operation is achieved. This helps to prevent the rolling elements from seizing.
This model is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the integrated steel sheet cage and metal cover plate remain dimensionally stable within this range. When selecting the lubricant, you should ensure that it is also approved for the relevant temperature.
The solid rings and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by high strength and wear resistance. The balls are guided by a robust sheet steel cage. The protective cover plate on the Z version is also made from dimensionally stable sheet steel.
