The SKF 6009 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing combines compact dimensions of 45x75x16 mm with non-contacting end shields and increased C3 bearing clearance for demanding industrial applications.
The 6009 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) with a 45 mm bore, 75 mm outside diameter and 16 mm width. SKF manufactures this design in the Explorer performance class with increased dimensional and running accuracy to tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. The combination of a sheet steel cage and gap covers on both sides protects the interior from coarse dirt particles. This makes this rolling bearing suitable for a wide range of drives in mechanical engineering and industrial maintenance.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians prefer to use this bearing design in rotating systems subject to combined radial and axial loads, as well as higher speeds. Thanks to the deep raceway geometry, the bearing accommodates not only primarily radial forces but also moderate axial forces in both directions. As the cover plates on both sides provide a non-contact seal, they do not generate any additional friction. This facilitates higher operating speeds. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for thermal expansion when the inner and outer rings heat up to different temperatures during operation, or when tight shaft fits reduce the bearing clearance. At the same time, manufacture to tolerance class P6 is characterised by tighter tolerances for concentricity and dimensions. Before installation, check whether the fits of your shaft and housing are compatible with this increased bearing clearance.
The suffix 2Z denotes cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides, which protect the interior of the bearing from dirt and minimise grease loss. The designation C3 indicates increased radial clearance. As a result, the rolling bearing has more clearance between the balls and raceways in its initial state than a bearing with standard clearance.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 75 mm and a total width of 16 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no groove or flange. Thanks to these standardised key dimensions, the bearing can be easily fitted into suitable bearing seats in accordance with standard specifications.
Type 2Z cover discs form non-contact gap seals on the inner ring. Unlike rubbing rubber seals, they do not generate any frictional torque or additional heat. They therefore allow for higher speeds. They are well suited for use against dry dust and solid particles, but do not offer complete protection against liquids or pressurised water.
The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is determined by the materials used for the outer and inner rings, the sheet steel cage and the factory-applied lubrication. Within this temperature range, the rolling elements made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) retain their hardness and dimensional stability.
SKF manufactures Explorer deep-groove ball bearings with optimised geometry and a refined surface finish. Tolerance class P6 (comparable to ABEC 3) offers lower dimensional and geometric deviations than the standard tolerance. This ensures smooth running, reduces vibrations in the system and promotes even load distribution across the rolling elements.
An increased bearing clearance is recommended if, due to temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, the inner ring expands more than the outer ring. Similarly, tight interference fits during assembly result in a reduction in operating clearance. The C3 design helps to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed under such operating conditions.
