The SKF 6008-2RS1 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 40x68x15 mm and featuring seals on both sides, offers protection against dirt particles.
The 6008 -2RS1 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing from SKF’s Explorer performance class. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this bearing accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly in the deep raceways. Thanks to the standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for standard operating conditions without excessive thermal expansion. The design, which has no groove or flange on the outer ring, allows for direct installation in cylindrical housing bores.
This design is primarily used in applications involving combined radial and axial loads, as well as moderate operating temperatures. The sealing discs, which rub against both sides, ensure that lubricant remains inside whilst making it difficult for dust and moisture to penetrate. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its manufacture to tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3), the shaft runs with dimensional accuracy and low vibration, which helps to reduce noise levels during operation.
The 2RS1 seal’s sealing lips rest against the inner ring under slight radial pressure, which reduces maintenance requirements compared with open designs. Compared with standard tolerance, class P6 has tighter roundness and width tolerances. During assembly, it is recommended to align the bearing with clean mounting shoulders on the shaft (40 mm in diameter) and in the housing seat (68 mm outer diameter) in order to utilise the high precision.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing complies with standard installation dimensions. This version features a cylindrical outer ring without a flange or retaining groove and is suitable for standardised housing bores.
The suffix 2RS1 indicates sealing discs fitted on both sides that rub against the bearing. They protect the bearing interior from the ingress of dust and dirt particles and help to retain the lubricant within the bearing.
Tolerance class P6, also known as ABEC 3, has tighter manufacturing tolerances in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy than the standard tolerance. This ensures precise guidance of the rotating shaft and promotes low-vibration operation.
The permissible operating range extends from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the sealing washers are designed for regular continuous operation.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the standard range of internal clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways. It is intended for standard fits and applications in which no excessive heating or oversize fits occur during normal operation.
