The FAG 6008 -2RSR-C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 40x68x15 mm, with contact seals on both sides and a C3 radial clearance, offers protection against dirt at elevated operating temperatures.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6008 -2RSR-C3 is manufactured by FAG Wälzlager and is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6). As a versatile rolling bearing, the design primarily absorbs radial forces, whilst also guiding shafts stably under axial loads in both directions. This version features a cylindrical outer ring without a groove or flange. Thanks to the factory-fitted sliding seals, the lubricant remains protected inside the bearing.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design in machine components where foreign particles and moisture must be kept away from the raceways. The bearing is suitable for rotating shafts in mechanical and plant engineering at normal to elevated temperatures. Thanks to the C3 clearance, the component can accommodate thermal expansion, whilst the sliding seals retain the grease within the rolling chamber.
The specified operating temperature range is from -20 to +100 degrees. The integrated sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and guides them securely within the raceway. The sealed design reduces maintenance requirements, as no external relubrication is necessary.
The designation 2RSR stands for grinding seal lips fitted on both sides, which come into direct contact with the inner ring and make it difficult for dirt to penetrate. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This combination is recommended when the shaft and inner ring heat up more than the housing during operation, or when tight fits are used.
The expansion of the inner ring reduces the radial operating clearance without causing the balls to become stressed. At the same time, the contact seals provide an effective barrier against environmental influences.
With an internal bore of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing is suitable for standardised shafts and housing bores. These dimensions allow for straightforward integration into existing designs or direct replacement during repairs.
In the 2RSR design, sealing lips that rub against both sides seal off the interior of the rolling bearing. This contact seal protects the lubricant and raceways from dirt particles and moisture. Compared with non-contact cover plates, this results in slightly higher friction; however, the lubricant remains effectively contained within the bearing chamber.
The C3 classification denotes a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. It compensates for thermal expansion when the shaft and housing heat up unevenly. Even with fixed fit specifications, the increased clearance helps to ensure that the bearing runs smoothly without any undesirable stress.
This roller bearing is specified for a temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees. Within these limits, the standard roller bearing steel, the lubricant and the seal materials retain their mechanical properties. In the event of extremely low temperatures or temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, special designs should be considered.
Inside, a robust sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their low weight and resistance to vibration. The design is suitable for standard greases and the mechanical stresses encountered in industrial applications.
Manufacturing is carried out in accordance with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 by international standards. This manufacturing precision meets the requirements of standard industrial applications in terms of concentricity and dimensional accuracy in mechanical and plant engineering.
