The 6008-Z deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 40x68x15 mm, offers reliable radial load-carrying capacity with one-sided protection against dirt particles.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6008 -Z is one of the most versatile rolling bearings in industrial engineering. With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm, this rolling bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as low axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a robust sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, this FAG roller bearing model is characterised by smooth running and universal applicability.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing is particularly useful where rotating shafts need to be supported. Typical applications include mounting positions with predominantly radial loads and moderate speeds. Thanks to the single-sided sheet metal cover, the bearing is particularly suitable for enclosed spaces, such as inside a housing. Lubricant can circulate freely on the open side, whilst the protected side shields the interior of the bearing from coarse external contaminants.
The ‘-Z’ designation indicates a non-contacting cover plate made of profiled sheet steel on one side of the bearing. As the cover plate does not contact the inner ring, the friction torque remains low, enabling high speeds without additional frictional heat. Before installation, it is advisable to check the mounting direction: the open side is typically mounted facing the lubricant reservoir, whilst the closed ‘Z’ side acts as a mechanical barrier against the ingress of dirt from adjacent areas.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a total width of 15 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a groove or flange. These dimensions can be used to check whether the bearing fits into the intended fit between the shaft and the housing bore.
The suffix ‘-Z’ denotes a cover plate made of sheet steel fitted on one side. Unlike rubbing rubber seals, this sheet metal cover operates without contact. It protects the interior of the bearing from coarse particles without causing friction losses. The opposite side remains open, allowing lubricant to reach the raceways and balls from there.
This model is designed with standard radial bearing clearance. This standard bearing clearance is designed for typical fits and operating conditions where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. When the bearing is installed, it helps to ensure a balanced radial clearance between the balls and the raceways.
FAG Roller Bearings fits this design with a sheet steel cage. The cage guides the single-row arrangement of rolling elements in their raceways and prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another. Sheet steel cages are suitable for standard operating conditions and can withstand the typical vibrations encountered in general mechanical and plant engineering.
With a tolerance class of ‘Normal’ (P0 or PN, comparable to ABEC 1), the bearing complies with the usual industry standards for dimensional and radial run-out tolerances. For standard bearing seats on the shaft and in the housing, this accuracy class is generally entirely sufficient for conventional industrial applications.
Both the solid rings and the balls are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This case-hardened chrome steel offers high wear resistance and dimensional stability under repeated rolling loads. The material helps ensure that the components can withstand the fatigue forces encountered during industrial operation.
