The SKF 6008-2Z deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 40x68x15 mm and cover plates on both sides, offers reliable protection against contamination at normal speeds.
This single-row deep groove ball bearing 6008-2Z from SKF is designed for radial loads and moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel and featuring the Explorer design, the unit is suitable for demanding industrial applications. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with precision. With a permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the bearing operates stably under standard operating conditions.
This design is primarily used where rotating shafts need to be supported and there is no direct contact with liquids. Typical applications include general industrial drives and rotating assemblies. Thanks to the double-sided gap seal made of sheet steel, the factory-applied lubricant remains inside, whilst coarse particles and dust are effectively kept out without generating additional frictional heat.
Manufacture to tolerance class P6 (corresponding to ABEC 3) offers tighter dimensional and concentricity accuracy compared with standard-class bearings. This reduces vibrations during operation and ensures smooth running at medium to high speeds. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance and the cylindrical outer ring without a groove, the component can be fitted precisely onto 40 mm shafts and into 68 mm housing bores.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standard 6008 series. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The designation -2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a non-contact gap seal with the inner ring. They retain the grease inside and protect against solid contaminants without significantly increasing the friction torque or thermal load.
Tolerance class P6, also known internationally as ABEC 3, specifies tighter tolerances for bore and outer diameters, as well as for flatness and concentricity. This enables more precise guidance of the shaft. When machining housings and shafts, it is advisable to use mating surfaces with correspondingly tighter tolerances.
The roller bearing is fitted with standard radial clearance. The internal clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways falls within the standardised range, which is designed for common fit conditions and operating conditions without extreme temperatures or tight press fits.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees. These limits are based on the thermal resistance of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, the lubricant and the metal end plates. For applications outside these limits, special versions with adapted lubricants are required.
The roller cage is made from die-stamped sheet steel. This design offers low weight, mechanical strength and resistance to mineral oil-based lubricants. It maintains the rollers at a constant distance and prevents them from coming into contact with one another during rotation.
