The SKF 6008 deep groove ball bearing, with a 40 mm bore, 68 mm outside diameter and P6 tolerance class, offers high running accuracy for rotating shafts.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6008, made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for direct lubrication via the operational lubrication circuit. Fitted with a sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, the bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius in industrial environments.
Typical applications for the 6008 deep groove ball bearing include general mechanical engineering, as well as drive shafts and industrial gearboxes. Designs utilising the 40x68x15 mm dimensions are frequently found in enclosed housing systems, where lubrication is provided by a site-supplied oil or grease circulation system. Thanks to the increased running accuracy of the P6 version, the component operates with low vibration even at high speeds.
Manufacture to tolerance class P6 (corresponding to ABEC 3) is characterised by lower dimensional and geometric deviations compared with standard tolerance. This property ensures smooth operation and precise guidance of the shaft. As there are no sealing lips in contact with the inner ring, no additional frictional resistance is generated within the bearing due to rubbing seals. Operation requires a clean installation environment or an external housing seal to prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm. Both the outer and inner rings are made of through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with no flange or circumferential groove on the outer ring.
P6, or ABEC 3, denotes a tighter manufacturing tolerance than the standard class. The concentricity and dimensional accuracy of the bore and outer diameter are more precisely controlled, which helps to reduce vibrations, ensure more precise concentricity and deliver smoother operation at high speeds.
The open design does not require cover plates or sealing discs, thereby eliminating any additional friction on rotating components. The bearing can be flexibly connected to on-site oil or grease lubrication systems, but requires a housing that is protected against foreign matter.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the microstructure of the steel retain their dimensional stability within this range, provided that the lubricant used is suitable for the respective operating temperature.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the specified radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is new, without the influence of fit. It is intended for standard temperature profiles and standard shaft and housing seats, where the rings expand within normal limits during operation.
Inside, a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. The stamped sheet metal design takes up little space, withstands dynamic accelerations and allows the lubricant to circulate freely within the grooves.
Due to its design, the deep raceway primarily absorbs radial loads. At the same time, the continuous flanges support axial forces that may act on the shaft from either direction.
