The SKF 6003 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing combines non-contact cover plates with increased C3 bearing clearance, whilst maintaining compact overall dimensions of 17 × 35 × 10 mm.
The SKF 6003 -2Z/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing is designed primarily to accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design, the component is characterised by dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to tolerance class P5. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within the cylindrical outer ring without a flange.
Thanks to the sheet metal covers on both sides, the bearing protects the inner rolling elements from coarse particles without causing significant friction losses. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees. The deep-groove ball bearing is particularly suitable for applications where high speeds and smooth running are required. It is typically used in compact drives and rotating assemblies in general mechanical engineering.
The design with a slightly increased radial clearance (C3) serves to compensate for operational thermal expansion between the shaft and the housing. Even with tighter fits, this bearing clearance is intended to prevent the rolling elements from seizing prematurely. The tolerance class – P6 for mounting dimensions and P5 for concentricity – supports low-vibration operation and helps to maintain the concentricity of rotating components.
The main dimensions are a bore diameter of 17 mm, an outside diameter of 35 mm and a width of 10 mm. It is a single-row radial ball bearing with a cylindrical bore, without a flange or ring groove on the outer ring.
The abbreviation 2Z refers to cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. These gap seals prevent solid particles from entering, but do not come into contact with the inner ring. As a result, unlike with sliding rubber seals, no additional friction is generated, which enables high rotational speeds.
C3 denotes an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the balls and raceways counteracts stress when the shaft or bearing rings expand due to thermal effects during operation, or when tight press fits are used.
With this bearing, the dimensional accuracy falls within tolerance class P6 and the running accuracy within the even tighter tolerance class P5. Compared with the standard tolerance, this ensures smaller deviations in bore and diameter, as well as smooth concentricity.
The ball bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees. The integrated sheet steel cage and the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel retain their dimensional stability within this range and are suitable for demanding industrial environments.
