The SKF 6001-2Z deep groove ball bearing, with its compact dimensions of 12x28x8 mm, offers reliable protection against dirt particles whilst minimising friction.
The 6001-2Z deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design. The design primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its double-sided protection with non-contact cover plates, this rolling bearing is suitable for applications where low friction losses and protection against coarse foreign particles are required. It operates within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees and features a guided sheet steel cage.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use this bearing in compact rotating units. Typical applications include high-speed shaft bearings, compact drive units and general mechanical engineering. As the end shields are designed to be non-contacting, no additional frictional torques are generated by rubbing sealing lips. This makes it ideal for applications involving higher speeds where contamination from dry dust or swarf needs to be prevented. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no groove, fits precisely into housing bores.
This SKF deep-groove ball bearing combines dimensional accuracy of class P6 with running accuracy to P5. This results in tighter manufacturing tolerances than with standard tolerances, which contributes to improved concentricity and smoother vibration behaviour. To fully utilise this precision, it is recommended that the shaft and housing seats are of a corresponding precision. With standard radial bearing clearance, the bearing is suitable for standard fit selections and moderate thermal expansion of the shaft during operation.
With a bore of 12 mm, an outer diameter of 28 mm and a width of 8 mm, this design complies with standardised key dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct replacement in existing assemblies. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
-2Z-type cover discs are made of sheet steel and fit against the inner ring without coming into contact with it. As a result, unlike with rubbing rubber seals, no additional frictional resistance is created, which allows for higher rotational speeds. The cover discs protect against solid foreign objects but do not provide protection against the ingress of liquids.
As the internal clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is unmounted, the standard radial bearing clearance sets the benchmark for typical fit combinations. Provided there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during operation, this bearing clearance ensures smooth running without internal stress.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +120 degrees. Within this range, roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical strength and dimensional stability. For applications close to the limit values, it is advisable to ensure that the ambient conditions are compatible with the temperature resistance of the lubricant.
The outer and inner rings, as well as the rolling elements, are manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by high wear resistance and fatigue strength under cyclic compressive loading. Together with the sheet steel cage, it forms a robust assembly capable of withstanding industrial loads.
During operation, the sheet-steel cage guides the balls at a uniform distance along the raceway. It keeps the rolling elements separate, thereby reducing friction and heat build-up, and helps to ensure even load distribution in the single-row bearing. It also holds the rolling elements securely in place during assembly.
