The SKF 16030 /C3 open deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 150 × 225 × 24 mm, can accommodate high radial forces under thermal loading.
The SKF 16030 /C3 deep groove ball bearing belongs to the group of single-row radial deep groove ball bearings with a narrow cross-section. With an inside diameter of 150 mm, an outside diameter of 225 mm and a width of 24 mm, this rolling bearing is suitable for compact installation spaces. Manufactured from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the design handles combined loads with precision and low noise. The component complies with standard tolerance P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Design engineers primarily select this size for shaft mountings subject to predominantly radial forces and with limited radial installation space. As the bearing primarily accommodates radial forces and, in addition, moderate axial forces in both directions, it reliably stabilises rotating shafts. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for use in oil-lubricated recirculating systems or enclosed gearbox housings. This enables the lubricant to circulate freely around the raceways and dissipate any frictional heat generated directly.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for operational heating and thermal expansion of the shaft and housing. Even with tight fits, the C3 bearing clearance prevents the bearing from becoming stressed during operation. Together with the robust sheet steel cage, the bearing remains consistently stable within the permissible temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
This roller bearing has a bore of 150 mm, an outer diameter of 225 mm and a width of 24 mm. The 160 series is characterised by a particularly narrow ring cross-section. As a result, the bearing assembly requires little radial installation space within the housing for the same shaft diameter.
The suffix C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance beyond the standard range. This design is intended for applications where temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or where tight fits result in a reduction in operating clearance. It helps to effectively prevent the rolling elements from overheating.
As the bearing is supplied without integrated sealing washers or cover plates, lubrication must be provided via the surrounding structure. It can be operated using either grease or lubricating oil. External shaft seals integrated into the housing protect the system from contamination and prevent the lubricant from leaking out.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees. The rings and rolling elements made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, as well as the temperature-resistant sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When designing the bearing, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used is approved for the relevant operating temperatures.
A sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another. Sheet steel cages offer high strength whilst being lightweight. They are fully compatible with standard industrial lubricants and ensure reliable operation even during rapid changes in speed or continuous, long-term operation.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing primarily absorbs radial forces perpendicular to the shaft axis. Due to the deep raceways in the inner and outer rings, it also transmits axial loads in both directions. This characteristic makes this type of bearing highly versatile when shafts need to be guided axially whilst also being supported against deflection.
