The 16004 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing provides a compact shaft mounting solution with dimensions of 20 × 42 × 8 mm and dust protection on both sides.
The FAG 16004 -2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing, manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. With a bore of 20 mm, an outside diameter of 42 mm and a narrow width of 8 mm, this rolling bearing fits into space-saving installations. It primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial loads in both directions. The design, featuring a sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, ensures smooth running under normal operating conditions.
The 16004-2Z deep groove ball bearing is primarily used in designs with limited radial and axial installation space. Thanks to its narrow cross-section, the bearing is suitable for compact assemblies and drive elements with a narrow installation width. As the design is rated for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees, it covers a wide thermal operating range. The component is suitable for high speeds where the forces are predominantly radial.
The double-sided cover with non-contact cover discs made of sheet steel protects the bearing interior from coarse dirt particles and foreign bodies. Unlike abiding sealing lips, the Z-discs do not generate any additional friction, making the bearing suitable for higher speeds with low heat generation. When selecting the design, please note that gap seals are primarily effective against solid particles. Where necessary, an additional external housing seal is recommended to protect against pressurised liquids.
The roller bearing has an inner diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 42 mm and a width of 8 mm. Thanks to its slim cross-sectional geometry, this model is particularly suitable for installation situations where radial and axial space is limited.
The designation -2Z refers to two cover plates made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on both sides. These gap covers keep coarse dust and dirt away from the ball and raceway areas. As they fit against the inner ring without contact, no additional frictional torque is generated, which helps to ensure smooth running at higher speeds.
This bearing is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, which is designed for the majority of standard applications. Bearing clearance refers to the internal play between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It compensates for thermal expansion caused by operation and ensures smooth running with moderate fits.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage and metal end plates are thermally rated for this temperature range. Special designs are required for loads outside this range.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance defines limit dimensions for bore, external and concentricity accuracy. It is entirely sufficient for general industrial shaft bearings and mechanical engineering.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, which offers dimensional stability under mechanical stress. The balls are guided by a sheet steel cage, which maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and promotes low-friction operation.
