The FAG 6418-M deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 90 × 225 × 54 mm, offers high stability under radial and axial loads thanks to its brass cage.
The 6418-M deep groove ball bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is a single-row radial ball bearing for industrial applications involving combined loads. With a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 225 mm and a width of 54 mm, the component primarily absorbs radial forces as well as axial forces acting on both sides. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, this rolling bearing is precisely suited to standardised installation scenarios in mechanical engineering. Design engineers and maintenance technicians rely on it when stable bearings are required for medium to heavy-duty shafts.
This bearing is suitable for industrial applications involving combined radial and axial loads with shaft diameters of 90 mm. As it is an open design without sealing washers, lubricant reaches the raceways and rolling elements unimpeded, whilst the surrounding housing provides protection against foreign particles. The operating temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees allows for use in thermally demanding environments where conventional standard cages reach their thermal or mechanical limits.
The suffix ‘-M’ denotes the solid brass cage that guides the rolling elements. Compared to simple sheet steel cages, brass is characterised by high strength and favourable emergency running properties under shock loads or severe vibrations. This design features a standard radial bearing clearance, which ensures a defined running clearance during operation. Before installation, check that the fits between the shaft and the housing bore comply with standard tolerances to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed.
With an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 225 mm and a width of 54 mm, the component has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which means the bearing can be fitted flush into the corresponding housing bores.
The code letter -M denotes a solid brass cage. This cage ensures that the balls in the roller bearing retain their shape particularly well. Compared with standard sheet metal cages, brass offers greater resistance to vibrations, accelerations and elevated operating temperatures, which helps to extend service life under demanding conditions.
The permissible temperature range for this model is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the rolling elements and the bearing rings, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, remain dimensionally stable within this range. For continuous operation, the selected lubricant must be suitable for this temperature range.
This version has the standard radial bearing clearance (PN). The bearing clearance describes the radial play of the balls between the raceways prior to installation. The standard version is suitable for conventional fit designs on shafts and in housings, without the need to take increased thermal expansion into account.
As an open component without integrated seals, lubricant comes into direct contact with the rolling elements. Depending on the system design, lubrication can be provided via oil circuits or grease. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles and moisture, external seals, such as shaft seals, must be fitted to the bearing housing.
Manufacturing is carried out in accordance with tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy grade defines standardised limit dimensions for bore, outside diameter and concentricity. It is suitable for the vast majority of standard industrial applications and allows for straightforward replacement during maintenance work.
