The SKF 6222-2Z deep groove ball bearing, with a 110 mm bore and sheet metal shields on both sides, provides protection against dirt particles in industrial applications.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, the 6222 -2Z deep groove ball bearing is designed for heavy-duty shaft constructions in mechanical engineering. Fitted with a sheet steel cage and manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the component primarily absorbs radial forces. Thanks to the deep raceway geometry, the design also transmits axial forces in both directions. The SKF Explorer version is characterised by a optimised internal geometry of the raceways and rolling elements.
The bearing is primarily used in designs that accommodate shafts with a diameter of 110 mm and must withstand combined loads. With its dimensions of 110 mm inner diameter, 200 mm outer diameter and 38 mm width, the component is suitable for robust bearing arrangements. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or groove, which means the bearing can be fitted into straight housing bores.
The cover plates (2Z) on both sides, made of sheet steel, seal off the interior of the bearing without coming into contact with it. This prevents any additional friction during operation, which facilitates operation at higher speeds and reduces the ingress of coarse dirt particles. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance or ABEC 1) and with standard radial bearing clearance, this roller bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
With an internal diameter of 110 mm, an external diameter of 200 mm and a width of 38 mm, the component complies with the standardised main dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct fitting onto suitable shafts and into cylindrical housing bores without a flange.
The suffix 2Z indicates cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. These gap seals keep solid dirt particles and dust out of the bearing interior. As they do not come into contact with the inner ring, no additional frictional heat is generated, meaning the bearing remains suitable for higher speeds.
When fitted with standard radial bearing clearance (standard clearance), the component is suitable for operating conditions where the temperature between the inner and outer rings is balanced. This universal standard clearance group is used for standard fit selections on the shaft and housing.
The rings and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The integrated cage, which guides the balls, is made of sheet steel. This combination of materials provides a defined level of strength for typical loads encountered in general mechanical engineering.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these thermal limits, the metal end caps, the sheet steel cage and the roller bearing steel retain their dimensional and functional stability.
The 6222-2Z deep-groove ball bearing does not have integrated electrical insulation. If, in the design, electrical currents are to flow through the bearing location, separate insulation measures such as electrically insulating coatings or hybrid bearings with ceramic rolling elements are required.
