The SKF 6024 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 120 × 180 × 28 mm, offers a specified load-carrying capacity for predominantly radial loads in continuous industrial operation.
The 6024 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in an open design with a 120 mm bore, an 180 mm outer diameter and a width of 28 mm. As an SKF Explorer variant made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element steel, the design accommodates high radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly in the raceways. The rolling bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees and is suitable for a wide range of industrial drive arrangements.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in industrial drive and shaft systems where clean ambient conditions prevail or external housing seals are in place. As the bearing is of open design, it can be flexibly lubricated with application-specific grease or via an existing oil circuit. Design engineers utilise the compact cross-sectional height for a 120 mm shaft diameter to achieve load-bearing shaft supports whilst minimising the installation space required. The sheet steel cage ensures low friction losses at both normal and higher speeds.
This tolerance class combines increased dimensional accuracy to P6 with standard running accuracy PN. This facilitates the precise design of the fit on the shaft and in the bearing housing. As the 6024 deep groove ball bearing has no integrated cover or sealing washers, external sealing elements must protect the component from contamination and moisture. The standard radial clearance is suitable for typical operating temperatures and standard fit conditions. Before installation, the lubrication supply and the permissible operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees must be checked.
This roller bearing has an internal bore of 120 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 28 mm. These dimensions make the 60 series suitable for large-diameter shafts with a comparatively narrow cross-section, which facilitates a space-saving design within the machine housing.
As no sealing or cover plates are incorporated, the bearing is lubricated directly within the housing. Depending on the application, either grease or lubricating oil can be used. In enclosed assemblies, the component is connected directly to the existing oil circuit, whilst external seals must protect against the ingress of dust and dirt.
In this version, the roller bearing features enhanced dimensional accuracy to P6 and standard running accuracy PN. Dimensional accuracy P6 means tighter manufacturing tolerances for the bore and outer diameter compared with standard versions. This improves the defined fit on the shaft and in the housing and promotes uniform concentricity.
The bearing can be operated within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. Both the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage are designed for this operating range. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that it is approved for the system’s specific operating temperature.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the standard clearance specified by the manufacturer between the inner ring, outer ring and balls when the bearing is unmounted. It is sufficient for applications with standard fits and moderate heating during operation. Only in the case of significant temperature differences or very tight press fits is it advisable to use a correspondingly increased bearing clearance instead.
The rings and rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, which offers high wear resistance and fatigue resistance. The integrated cage is made from pressed sheet steel. This combination of materials provides robust mechanical strength for continuous industrial use.
