The FAG 6324 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row, open rolling bearing with a cylindrical bore, a sheet steel cage and an outer diameter of 260 mm.
As a versatile rolling bearing, the FAG 6324 deep groove ball bearing accommodates both radial and axial loads in both directions. The open design, made from standard roller bearing steel, is suitable for lubrication systems using oil or grease and offers a temperature range of -30 to +200 °C. Thanks to its single-row design, this radial ball bearing operates with low friction. Manufacturers use the bearing in designs with a cylindrical shaft seat, where lubricants must be able to reach the rolling elements unimpeded.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6324 is particularly suitable for industrial drive systems and gearboxes where radial forces predominate and axial forces need to be accommodated. Thanks to the sheet steel cage, the row of balls remains properly aligned even during continuous movement. As this is an open bearing, it is primarily used in enclosed housings where an existing lubricating oil circuit or a central relubrication system continuously supplies the rolling elements.
Standard radial bearing clearance provides the standard operating clearance between balls and raceways for conventional fits and balanced temperature conditions. Choose this variant if no significant temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Furthermore, the open design without sealing washers requires a clean housing environment. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles and avoid lubricant loss, designers incorporate external housing seals on the shaft.
The bearing has an outer diameter of 260 mm and a width of 55 mm with a cylindrical bore. As a single-row radial ball bearing, it is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel and the rolling elements are retained by a sheet steel cage. This version is manufactured without integrated seals and has a standard radial clearance.
The permissible temperature range extends from -30 to +200 °C. Thanks to its sheet steel cage design and the absence of temperature-sensitive plastic seals, the roller bearing can withstand both sub-zero temperatures and high thermal loads. The choice of a lubricant approved for the respective operating temperature remains crucial for operation.
In an open design, the manufacturer does not fit integrated cover plates or sealing washers to the outer ring. This allows lubricating oil or grease to reach the balls and raceways directly. However, this design requires an external seal on the housing to protect the bearing from dust, moisture and foreign particles, and to prevent lubricant from leaking out.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the radial clearance set at the factory for standard applications in mechanical engineering. This clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways compensates for minor dimensional changes caused by shaft fits and moderate operating heat build-up. It is suitable for installations where there are no extreme thermal expansions or unusually tight press fits.
The sheet steel cage keeps the rolling balls at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. Thanks to its low weight and aerodynamic shape, it facilitates the flow of liquid lubricants. Furthermore, sheet steel retains its dimensional stability and remains resistant to vibrations in the drive system across the entire temperature range from -30 to +200 °C.
As the open roller bearing is designed without factory-applied lubricant or sealing washers, lubrication is carried out during assembly or via the housing system. Depending on the design, oil circulation lubrication, an oil bath or manual grease filling may be suitable. It is important to ensure a continuous supply of lubricant to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the rolling elements and raceways.
