The FAG 6226 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 130 mm bore, brass cage and C3 clearance, offers a high level of operational reliability for industrial applications subject to thermal stress.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6226 -M-C3 is an open rolling bearing designed to accommodate radial loads as well as axial loads acting in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this bearing has a bore of 130 mm, an outer diameter of 230 mm and a width of 40 mm. The combination of a robust brass cage and a slightly increased clearance (C3) makes this design ideal for applications in heavy machinery where operational heating or additional dynamic forces occur.
The bearing is primarily used in designs where high radial loads, combined with axial guiding forces, act on large shaft diameters. As the design is an open bearing, lubrication is supplied via the surrounding housing system, for example via an oil bath or a continuous grease supply. The solid brass cage is designed to withstand mechanical vibrations, accelerations and alternating loads during continuous operation.
The designation ‘M’ stands for a solid brass cage, which guides the rolling elements precisely and remains thermally stable. Together with the C3 bearing clearance, the bearing specifically compensates for operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. In the case of tight fits on the shaft or in the housing, the slightly increased radial clearance prevents the balls from becoming stressed. From a design perspective, an effective housing seal must be provided at the bearing location to keep dirt particles and moisture out of the open rolling chamber.
The 6226 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 130 mm, an outside diameter of 230 mm and a width of 40 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These dimensions are suitable for large-diameter shafts in mechanical engineering.
The abbreviation combines two specific design features: the ‘M’ stands for a guided solid brass cage, which guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration. The C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This combination is suitable for higher operating temperatures and dynamic loads.
The permissible temperature range extends from -30 °C to +150 °C. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the solid brass cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. As this is an unsealed bearing, the thermal operating limit is primarily determined by the lubricant selected.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated cover plates or sealing discs. Grease or lubricating oil must therefore be supplied via the housing design. To prevent the ingress of dirt particles and the escape of lubricant, external housing seals, such as radial shaft seals or labyrinth systems, must be fitted at the bearing location.
Manufacturing is carried out to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance meets the requirements of common industrial applications in terms of dimensional, form and concentricity accuracy. The bearing seats on the shaft and in the housing should be designed in accordance with the design specifications for standard fits.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This case-hardened chrome steel is characterised by high wear resistance, fatigue resistance and dimensional stability. It withstands high cyclic loads in continuous industrial use and forms the material basis for radial deep-groove ball bearings.
