The FAG 6217 single-row deep-groove ball bearing (85x150x28 mm) accommodates both radial and axial loads and operates with standard bearing clearance.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, the 6217 is one of the most versatile machine components for rotating shafts. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this component supports shafts with a diameter of 85 mm in housings with a 150 mm bore. The deep raceways in the inner and outer rings accommodate not only predominantly radial loads but also axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its open design, the bearing can be integrated directly into lubrication circuits.
This bearing supports rotating machine parts with medium to large shaft diameters that are subject to combined loads. The 28 mm wide version provides a robust guide for rotating components. As the outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove, the cylindrical ring fits flush into smooth housing bores. The combination of a sheet steel cage and rolling elements made from standard rolling-bearing steel ensures smooth concentricity.
The open design without integrated sealing washers allows unhindered exchange of grease or lubricating oil with the surrounding system. The guided sheet steel cage maintains a constant spacing between the balls, reduces internal friction and saves weight compared with solid cages. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. For operation, the housing must be externally sealed against dirt and moisture to prevent premature wear of the raceways.
The main dimensions of the bearing are 85 mm internal diameter (bore), 150 mm external diameter and 28 mm width. The cylindrical shape, with no groove or flange on the outer ring, complies with the usual standards for cylindrical bearing seats.
Standard bearing clearance refers to the radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This value is selected so that, after the bearing has been press-fitted onto the shaft and fitted into the housing, an appropriate operating clearance remains at normal operating temperatures.
The cage, made of pressed sheet steel, guides the rolling elements along their circular path and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. This type of cage requires little installation space, keeps the weight low and allows the lubricant to reach the contact zones unhindered.
The bearing is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Within this temperature range, the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel retains its dimensional stability. The actual upper temperature limit during operation also depends on the lubricant selected.
As open bearings do not have integrated seals, lubrication is provided either by an external lubrication system or by applying grease during assembly. A housing seal prevents the lubricant from leaking out and stops dirt from entering.
Classification according to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 corresponds to the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. It defines binding limit values for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy, which meet the requirements of conventional drive technology and general industrial applications.
