Compact deep-groove ball bearing 16011 -C3, measuring 55 x 90 x 11 mm, with increased bearing clearance for demanding radial bearing applications in mechanical engineering.
The FAG 16011 -C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads. With a bore of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a narrow width of 11 mm, this model is particularly suitable for designs with limited axial installation space. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 with a robust sheet steel cage, the open bearing is designed for temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. It can be integrated directly into machines with an external lubrication supply.
Typical applications for the 16011 -C3 deep groove ball bearing are found where shafts are supported and there is limited axial installation space. Thanks to the narrow design of the 160 series, the unit is particularly suitable for compact assemblies in mechanical engineering. The open design without sealing washers allows for direct lubricant replacement via an external oil or grease circuit. In addition to high radial forces, the bearing also accommodates moderate axial forces in both directions.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures of up to +120 degrees. Furthermore, the C3 bearing clearance helps to prevent stress on the balls when the inner and outer rings are fitted with tight fits. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing offers defined manufacturing accuracies for common industrial applications.
The main dimensions are 55 mm internal diameter (bore), 90 mm external diameter and 11 mm width. Due to its narrow width in relation to its diameter, this roller bearing belongs to the narrow 160 series. It requires little axial installation space, guides shafts precisely and primarily absorbs radial forces in the housing.
With C3 bearing clearance, the radial clearance between the balls and the raceways is greater than with standard CN clearance. This prevents stress build-up in the bearing when rings expand due to temperature differences or when tight press fits reduce the operating clearance. This ensures that the bearing continues to run smoothly even under thermal stress.
An open deep-groove ball bearing has no integrated seals or cover plates. It is designed for use in enclosed housings where external lubrication is already provided, for example by an oil bath or recirculating lubrication. Furthermore, the contact-free, open design causes virtually no frictional resistance, which facilitates high speeds during continuous operation.
The bearing rings and spherical rolling elements are made from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), which is designed to provide high strength and dimensional stability. A guided sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. This combination of materials allows for reliable operation within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN in accordance with DIN/ISO, which corresponds to the US classification ABEC 1. This class defines the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for standard industrial bearings. It covers the requirements of general mechanical engineering and drive technology without requiring unnecessarily tight manufacturing tolerances.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings of this design are primarily designed to support radial loads. Thanks to the deep grooves in the raceways, the bearing can also support low to medium axial forces in both directions. For purely or predominantly axial forces, you should instead consider axial deep-groove ball bearings or angular contact ball bearings.
