The SKF 6212-2Z deep-groove ball bearing with a 60 mm bore features sheet metal shields on both sides, providing protection against the ingress of dirt whilst ensuring low-friction operation.
This single-row deep groove ball bearing 6212-2Z from SKF is designed as an Explorer version for demanding industrial applications. With key dimensions of a 60 mm bore, 110 mm outside diameter and 22 mm width, this radial ball bearing accommodates both radial and moderate axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the raceways and rolling elements offer high dimensional stability under load.
It is primarily used in rotating applications involving combined radial and axial loads, as well as at medium to high speeds. Thanks to the combination of a robust sheet steel guide and a non-contact gap seal, the unit is suitable for clean to moderately dusty environments. The 6212-2Z deep groove ball bearing covers a wide range of applications at operating temperatures from -20 to +120 degrees. The cylindrical outer ring without a flange allows for flush mounting in standardised housing bores.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover plates made of sheet steel pressed in on both sides. These gap seals keep out coarse dirt particles without causing friction or additional heating at the sealing points. This design features standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), which is designed for standard fits on shafts and in housing bores.
The dimensions are 60 mm internal diameter, 110 mm external diameter and 22 mm width. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct replacement in housings and bearing seats with the appropriate tolerances.
The abbreviation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. Unlike contact seals, these cover plates form a narrow sealing gap with the inner ring. This prevents any additional friction, which allows for high rotational speeds and inhibits the ingress of coarse particles into the bearing interior.
SKF Explorer bearings are characterised by a carefully optimised internal geometry and a defined surface finish on the raceways and rolling elements. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used is processed homogeneously. This reduces stress peaks in the material and contributes to smooth running under normal operating conditions.
This design features a standard radial clearance (CN), which is intended for regular transition and interference fits. This clearance is suitable for balanced temperature profiles during operation. If significant temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings, variants with increased clearance are usually used.
The approved temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. These limits are determined by the thermal resistance of the standard roller bearing steel used and the cover seal. For requirements outside this range, versions modified by the manufacturer are required.
A sheet steel cage maintains the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another. Single-row deep-groove ball bearings with a pressed sheet steel cage are characterised by low mass and low frictional resistance. The cage ensures that the load is distributed evenly across the rolling elements along the deep raceway grooves.
