SKF 625 compact deep-groove ball bearing with a 5 mm bore and 16 mm outer diameter for precision rotating small assemblies.
The 625 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row miniature bearing designed primarily to support radial loads and low axial loads. With dimensions of 5 mm inner diameter, 16 mm outer diameter and a width of 5 mm, this component fits into tight installation spaces. SKF manufactures this version in the Explorer performance class from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6. A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly in the deep raceways.
This miniature rolling bearing is typically used in small drives, precision mechanical equipment and electric motor assemblies. Designers utilise its compact design in precision fixtures and compact drive units with 5 mm shafts. As the 625 deep-groove ball bearing can accommodate both radial and axial loads in both directions, it stabilises rotating shafts in compact housings. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
As an open variant, the 625 deep groove ball bearing has no integrated cover or sealing washers. This means there is no frictional resistance caused by rubbing sealing lips, which promotes particularly smooth running. However, the design requires a clean housing environment and a suitable lubricant such as oil or grease. With standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing is suitable for standardised fits in mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing.
With an internal diameter of 5 mm, an external diameter of 16 mm and a width of 5 mm, the bearing has standardised miniature dimensions. These dimensions make this design suitable for slim shaft diameters and space-saving bearing arrangements in precision mechanical devices or small motors.
The bearing is used in industrial applications where space is limited, for example in small drives, precision mechanical units or metrological instruments. It primarily absorbs radial loads, but thanks to its deep raceways, it also guides the shaft stably in both directions even when subjected to slight axial forces.
As there are no fixed cover plates or sealing washers, friction losses are minimal, meaning the bearing rotates particularly smoothly. However, contaminants can reach the raceways more easily, which is why the bearing housing should be protected against dirt and supplied with lubricant via an external source.
The designation P0 or ABEC 1 describes the standardised tolerance class for rolling bearings. It defines the permissible dimensional, form and running deviations for rings and rolling elements. For the majority of industrial applications in general mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing, this standard tolerance provides sufficient fitting accuracy.
The specified operating temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. When designing the system, the selected lubricant should be suitable for the same temperature range.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set standard clearance between the inner ring, the balls and the outer ring when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance compensates for the usual reduction in clearance that occurs when the bearing is pressed onto the shaft and is sufficient at normal operating temperatures to prevent the rolling elements from seizing.
