The FAG 16008 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 40 × 68 × 9 mm, offers a particularly narrow design for compact shaft mountings.
This 16008 deep-groove ball bearing is designed as an open rolling bearing without sealing rings. The construction, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), primarily withstands radial loads but, due to its design, is also suitable for light axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its narrow width of 9 mm, the bearing assembly requires little axial installation space. The bearing features a sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, making it suitable for guided shafts under normal operating conditions.
The 16008 deep groove ball bearing is primarily suitable for designs where the shaft diameter and housing bore leave little room for the bearing width. It is typically used in sealed housings lubricated with oil or grease. As there are no abiding seals, the component operates with low friction. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for use under standard industrial operating conditions.
The narrow design saves weight and axial installation space without requiring the 40 mm internal diameter to be reduced. As an open bearing, this design has no integrated protection against ingress of dirt or lubricant leakage. Installation therefore requires a clean assembly environment and external sealing of the bearing housing. The lubricant can reach the raceways unhindered, which aids cooling within the lubrication circuit. The bearings are manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a width of 9 mm. Owing to its narrow design, the bearing assembly requires less axial space than bearings with a greater width but the same bore diameter.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the manufacturer’s standard gap between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance compensates for the usual reduction in clearance caused by fits on the shaft and in the housing. At normal operating temperatures, this alignment contributes to low-vibration operation and prevents premature stress build-up in the rolling elements.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing rings at their ends. This design reduces the friction torque to a minimum and allows for direct lubrication by the surrounding system, for example via an oil bath or externally applied grease. However, their use requires a sealed housing to protect against the ingress of dirt particles.
Both the bearing rings and the rolling elements are made from hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by its wear resistance and dimensional stability under load. The guided cage is made from profiled sheet steel, which keeps moving masses to a minimum and ensures mechanical stability.
The 16008 deep-groove ball bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. As it contains neither elastic plastic sealing lips nor polyamide cages, the thermal load capacity is primarily limited by the external lubricant used. The steel components retain their dimensional stability within this range.
The product is manufactured to tolerance class P0, which corresponds to standard tolerance PN and ABEC 1 classification. This classification defines the permissible deviations in terms of roundness, axial run-out and dimensional accuracy for standardised use in industrial bearings.
