The SKF 6009 -Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 45x75x16 mm, offers compact installation dimensions, increased C3 clearance and single-sided dust protection for industrial drives.
The 6009 -Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in SKF’s Explorer design. With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 75 mm and a width of 16 mm, this radial ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial loads. Thanks to the combination of a sheet steel cage and increased radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for applications involving thermal fluctuations or high speed requirements in industrial drive and conveyor technology.
Preferred applications include industrial drives and rotating bearings where higher temperatures occur during operation. The single-row component covers a temperature range from –20 to +150 degrees. Designs with oil lubrication benefit from the open rear, through which lubricant can reach the rolling elements unhindered, whilst the metal cover plate on the opposite side prevents coarse dirt particles from entering.
The designation C3 stands for a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This internal clearance compensates for any interference fit on the shaft as well as thermal expansion of the rings during operation. The abbreviation ‘Z’ denotes a single-sided cover made of sheet steel. As this gap seal shields the inner ring without coming into contact with it, no additional friction losses occur, which facilitates high speeds without generating additional frictional heat.
With a bore of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 75 mm and a width of 16 mm, this single-row radial ball bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a groove or flange, which allows the component to be fitted precisely into housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats.
A cover plate made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on one side, protects the bearing from coarse dirt particles. As this sheet metal cover does not come into contact with the rotating inner ring, no additional frictional torque is generated, unlike with sliding seals. At the same time, the unprotected opposite side allows direct access to the lubricant from the outside.
When the shaft heats up during operation, it often expands more than the housing, along with the inner ring. The increased bearing clearance C3 compensates for this temperature difference and counteracts any distortion of the rolling elements. Furthermore, the additional internal clearance helps to compensate for tight shaft fits without causing jamming.
The ball bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P6, which corresponds to the ABEC 3 classification. Compared with standard tolerances, this class is characterised by smaller deviations in dimensional and concentricity accuracy. As a result, designs benefit from smooth running and reduced vibrations at high speeds.
The component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The rings and rolling elements, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, as well as the sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this range. The lubricant used must be suitable for this temperature range.
A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart and keeps them on track. The sheet steel design is lightweight, is compatible with standard industrial lubricants and retains its mechanical guiding properties even at elevated operating temperatures.
