The 6003 -2RSR-C3 deep groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager, with dimensions of 17x35x10 mm, C3 clearance and a ground seal on both sides, offers reliable protection against dirt.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6003 -2RSR-C3 from FAG Wälzlager primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, this compact unit – with a bore of 17 mm, an outside diameter of 35 mm and a width of 10 mm – covers a wide range of applications. The sliding seals on both sides protect the interior of the bearing from contamination and help retain the lubricant within the operating temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees.
The design is suitable for bearing locations requiring radial guidance and capable of withstanding moderate axial loads in both directions. Thanks to the RSR contact seals on both sides, this version is designed for environments subject to dust or splashing water. Depending on the installation concept, the bearing can be used as a fixed or floating bearing. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with low vibration whilst ensuring even load distribution across the entire raceway.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and housing, as well as fit allowances during installation, without the bearing becoming stressed. The sliding 2RSR seal lips rest against the inner ring, which helps to prevent the ingress of foreign particles. When designing the system, bear in mind that the friction caused by sliding seals is slightly higher than that of non-contact cover plates.
The main dimensions are 17 mm internal diameter, 35 mm external diameter and 10 mm width. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, the component is designed for cylindrically machined shafts and housing bores.
The designation 2RSR refers to sliding contact seals fitted on both sides, which protect the roller bearing from dust and moisture. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This ensures that the internal operating clearance is maintained even in the event of thermal expansion of the shaft or housing.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +100 degrees. This temperature range takes into account the interaction between the elastic sealing materials, the sheet steel cage and the factory-applied grease filling. For applications close to the limit values, it is advisable to monitor the thermal conditions on an ongoing basis.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This through-hardened material offers high fatigue strength and dimensional stability under rolling contact. The cage is made from sheet steel, which keeps the component weight moderate and maintains the correct spacing between the balls.
Thanks to the factory-fitted grease filling and the ground seals on both sides, the bearing is designed for low-maintenance operation. The seals keep the grease inside the bearing and protect the raceways from particles. The sealing discs are not intended to be opened, as this may damage the sealing lips.
An increased bearing clearance (C3) is recommended where there are noticeable temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, or where fixed interference fits are used. If the shaft expands more significantly or the fit causes the inner ring to expand, the increased radial clearance compensates for this and prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed.
