The SKF 16101 open deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 12x30x8 mm, accommodates both radial and axial loads within a protected installation space.
The 16101 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. With a bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 30 mm and a width of 8 mm, this SKF brand bearing is suitable for compact designs. Thanks to its sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, the bearing guides the rolling elements at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing primarily transmits radial forces, but due to its design, it also accommodates moderate axial forces in both directions. Designers primarily use this bearing in protected machine housings, where the bearing location is shielded from direct environmental influences. As the design has no flange or ring groove on the outer ring, the rolling bearing can be easily fitted into smooth housing bores and positioned axially using shaft shoulders.
As an open rolling bearing, the 16101 design has no integrated seals or cover plates. Lubricants such as oil or grease must be supplied externally, or the component must be connected to an existing lubrication circuit. Ensure the installation environment is clean to prevent dirt particles from entering the raceways. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for common fit conditions and standard operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees.
With an internal diameter of 12 mm, an external diameter of 30 mm and a width of 8 mm, the 16101 deep-groove ball bearing has compact dimensions. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or circumferential groove. This allows the bearing to be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores with the appropriate tolerances.
The open design, which does not use sealing washers, minimises frictional resistance and allows direct lubrication via an external lubrication point or a housing oil circuit. To prevent premature wear, the bearing housing should be protected against the ingress of foreign particles and dirt by means of external housing seals.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the design clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is not installed. It ensures that the bearing can rotate freely after being pressed onto the shaft and as it heats up. This standard design is suitable for standard fits and normal operating temperatures.
For this model, made from standard roller bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, the permissible temperature range is between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the bearing rings, rolling elements and cage retain their dimensional stability. In practice, the thermal suitability of the selected lubricant also determines the actual operating temperature that can be achieved.
A sheet steel cage is fitted. This keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another. Sheet steel cages offer high strength, low weight and broad chemical resistance to mineral oil- and synthetic-based lubricants.
The design complies with the ‘Normal’ tolerance class (P0 or PN and ABEC 1). This dimensional and running accuracy meets the requirements of conventional industrial applications in general mechanical engineering. It is suitable for standard shafts and gearboxes, provided there are no increased requirements regarding concentricity.
