The FAG 16044 -C4 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 220 × 340 × 37 mm and a C4 clearance, offers stable running characteristics under thermal expansion.
The FAG 16044 -C4 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads whilst also withstanding moderate axial forces. With an inside diameter of 220 mm, an outside diameter of 340 mm and a narrow width of 37 mm, this design is suitable for large-dimensioned shaft guides. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and are guided by a sturdy sheet steel cage. Thanks to its seal-free design, the bearing achieves high rotational freedom and can be flexibly integrated into external lubrication circuits.
This radial ball bearing is particularly well-suited to heavy-duty industrial drives, gearboxes and industrial plant where large-diameter shafts need to be supported. Design engineers prefer to use the open design in enclosed housings where oil or grease circulation lubrication systems are already in place. With a wide operating temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the bearing is also designed to withstand thermal stresses. Thanks to the standardised tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, it fits precisely into housing bores and is designed for combined loads.
The C4 designation indicates a significantly increased radial bearing clearance, which is considerably greater than the normal operating clearance and the C3 grade. This design prevents the rolling elements from seizing up if considerable temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. Anyone fitting the bearing must also bear in mind the open design without integrated cover plates: contaminants must not be allowed to penetrate the raceways, which is why an external housing seal and a suitable lubrication system must be provided before commissioning.
The bore is exactly 220 mm, the outer diameter measures 340 mm and the width is 37 mm. These dimensions correspond to a narrow design for large-diameter shafts. The outer ring is cylindrical and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The designation C4 indicates a significantly increased radial clearance. It compensates for thermal expansion when the inner and outer rings are subjected to different operating temperatures. It also compensates for the radial compression that occurs with tight press fits on the shaft or in the housing.
The approved temperature range extends from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. The temperature resistance is based on the components made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the robust sheet steel cage, which are manufactured without any heat-sensitive plastic elements. A suitable lubricant is always required for high-temperature applications.
As the unit is supplied ex works without integrated sealing or cover washers, protection against dust and moisture must be provided by the surrounding housing. External shaft seals or labyrinth seals protect the interior of the bearing and keep the lubricant within the raceway.
This roller bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0, which corresponds to the standard tolerances PN and ABEC 1. It meets the requirements of industrial mechanical engineering for dimensional accuracy, roundness and running accuracy. This enables the component to be fitted precisely onto standardised shaft seats and into housing bores.
The rings and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). A dimensionally stable cage made of sheet steel ensures the even guidance of the balls. This combination is characterised by high strength, dimensional stability under thermal stress and low wear during continuous industrial operation.
