The FAG 6224-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with an inner diameter of 120 mm and an outer diameter of 215 mm, designed for demanding industrial applications.
The FAG 6224-C3 deep groove ball bearing is designed to accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial loads in both directions. With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm, this single-row component fits corresponding shaft dimensions in mechanical and plant engineering. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, the design is characterised by the dimensional stability of the solid raceways and rolling elements in continuous industrial use.
This radial ball bearing is designed to accommodate radial forces and axial forces acting in both directions, whilst ensuring precise shaft guidance and low-friction operation. Thanks to its open design without seals or cover plates, the bearing can be lubricated directly via the housing system using lubricating oil or grease. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways of the bearing rings, which ensures stable operational behaviour even with varying load directions.
The version with C3 bearing clearance has a greater radial operating clearance than the standard ‘Normal’ class. This slightly increased radial bearing clearance compensates for thermal expansion that can occur between the inner and outer rings at higher operating temperatures. Similarly, the clearance accommodates dimensional constrictions caused by tight fits on the shaft, thereby preventing the rolling elements from becoming jammed under thermal or mechanical stress.
The bearing has an internal bore of 120 mm, an external diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 40 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which means the component can be fitted into smooth housing bores.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. The additional radial clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming stressed when the shaft heats up during operation or when inner rings are fitted to the shaft with a tight press fit.
The open design, which does not feature integrated sealing washers, allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding unit, for example in oil-lubricated gearboxes or centrally lubricated bearing units. Furthermore, an open bearing does not generate any sealing friction torque, which promotes smooth, unimpeded operation at higher speeds.
This roller bearing is specified for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The rings, made from 100Cr6 bearing steel, and the temperature-resistant sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and shape within this range.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or Normal (equivalent to ABEC 1). This class offers dimensional and running accuracy suitable for industrial use and complies with the current standard specifications for standard applications.
As an open-type design, the roller bearing is not pre-filled with grease by the manufacturer, so the choice of lubricant depends on the surrounding unit design. Depending on the shaft speed and load, suitable roller bearing grease or lubricating oil is used, and the bearing housing must be protected from external contaminants.
